This is a great alpine guide book to some of the best climbs in Alaska. Historical background, detailed descriptions and clear photos help fuel your interest for each area.

This is a must have book for Alaskan climbing. Joe's insight makes the book interesting along with being technically relevant. The drawing and his amazing photography makes this my favorite climbing book in my library. Nice job Joe.

This is an excellent guidebook. It has great photos and maps and gives more than enough information to be comfortable climbing any of the routes. As a lifelong Alaskan and having climbed in the Alaska Range myself, I think this guide is invaluable for any climber going there. Whether you're climbing rock routes on the Ruth or skiing the Sultana Ridge on Foraker, this guide is a must have.

This is the best Alaskan climbing guide, written by a guy who has climbed each route described. The route descriptions and detail provided, along with invaluable pictures, are excellent and will help you avoid pitfalls regardless of whether this is your first Alaskan climb or you are a wily veteran.

A beautifully put together description of the classic routes in the Alaska Range. Puryear has climbed each route (an even bigger achievement than writing the guide) and his knowledge of the Alaska Range is unsurpassed. This contains the best written description of the West Buttress route as well as the more interesting routes that surround the highest mountain in North America. I have climbed a few of the routes in the book and found the descriptions to be very accurate.

The photos alone should inspire you! Wildly exposed, commiting and technical routes like the Ham and Eggs Couloir, Infinite Spur, Sultana Ridge...need I say more!!!

There are a few other guide books out there for the Range, and I have them... If you buy but one, this one is it... Why? Great Photos of the routes from land and air... Awesome Topos with great written descriptions. Also how to get there, flights into the range, where to shop for food and how to navigate the park BS... ++ much more....
