Book Description

March 7, 2006

"You're afraid of really living, Haley." He flicked his finger at her camera. "You hide behind your camera instead of stepping out and engaging life with both hands. You're so afraid you'll fail at something, you won't even try."

For some people, Alaska is a breathtaking wilderness adventure, full of light and beauty. For Haley, it is a dangerous world of dark dreams and tortured memories. On the surface, she's here to document wildlife activist Kipp Nowak's bear encounters. But her real reason is to unearth the truth about a past murder. The suspense mounts when another body turns up, and Haley beginst to wonder if the tragedies she experienced in the past are connected to the dangers and mysterious incidents of the present. From behind the viewfinder of her camera, Haley observes it all, including Tank Lassiter, the bear biologist who has been forced to lead Kipp and his team into the Alaskan backcountry. As she watches him with his work, she feels a growing attraction. It will take great courage and faith to confront the truth she once ran away from. Before it's over, Haley may be viewing herself from an entirely new angle.

Alaska Twilight is the story of a young woman's emergence from the shadows of past sorrow into the light of forgiveness and grace.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Veteran Christian romance novelist Coble sets her latest story in Alaska, where protagonist Haley Walsh goes to take still photographs for a celebrity nature documentarian's foray into bear country. There Haley faces painful childhood memories of her sister's death and her parents' rejection. As bear biologist Tank Lassiter leads photographer Nowak's team through the wild, he and Haley quickly forge a strong connection that each tries to fight for fear of getting hurt. Before the main characters know it, secrets about the deaths of Tank's wife and Haley's parents emerge. The novel's romantic and suspense plots are strictly by the numbers. The two romantic leads dutifully go through all the motions of denying, then fearing, then finally embracing their attraction, and while the identity of the primary villain is not telegraphed, many other plot points are. Several Christian fiction clichés are in full bloom as well: a city-dwelling protagonist learns important lessons in a small town, a non-Christian converts just in time to make an appropriate romantic partner for a mature Christian, and unsavory female characters are marked as such either by their unattractiveness or sexually provocative behavior. But Coble's prose is competent, and readers who crave a light, though formulaic, Christian novel will not be disappointed. (Mar. 7)

From Booklist

Photographer Haley Mitchell has come to Alaska to help document wildlife biologist Tank Lassiter's work with bears. Tank, predictably, is a mountain of a man and a staunch environmentalist concerned with the effects of global warming on bear environments. He is also a Christian and therefore a romantic possibility for Haley, despite the inhibitions imposed by her urban, moralizing soul. Meanwhile, as the documentary team hits the trail, a popular doctor is killed, apparently by bears. Tank and Haley work frantically to find the real, human culprit, bringing some suspense to this light but pleasant tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful few-hour trip to the Alaskan wilderness..., February 12, 2007

(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Alaska Twilight (Women of Faith Fiction) (Paperback)
I've read this twice and enjoyed it immensely both times. The heroine is a spunky lady who comes to terms with her fears and losses right before your eyes. She is a wonderful example to us readers who may need some help to see past physical handicaps to the person inside. Our hero is strong and rugged and everything you'd expect to find in an Alaskan Bear Researcher/Guide. Alaska Twilight is incredibly entertaining! Colleen Coble has a way with words that kicks my visual imagination into overdrive. I'm glad to have this novel in my personal library.

And I agree with other reviewers: the ending was wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Coble is a MASTER, April 20, 2006
This review is from: Alaska Twilight (Women of Faith Fiction) (Paperback)
Colleen Coble is a MASTER at weaving a detail plot, loveable characters, and the perfect setting. I was swept away to the beauty of Alaska, fell in love with a big, hunky hero, and my heart broke for poor Haley. If you love reading stories of suspense, love, and hope, you don't want to miss this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars What An Excellent Read!, April 20, 2006
This review is from: Alaska Twilight (Women of Faith Fiction) (Paperback)
I've read all of Colleen Coble's books and I have to say, this one blew me away! Using a protagonist with a handicap was a stroke of genius. . .makes you root for the heroine all the more. And the surprise appearance of some of Ms. Coble's favorites was a welcome delight. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic suspense--you won't be sorry!
