5.0 out of 5 stars Wow worth the money
My dog was experiencing horrific allergy's. He would scratch at his face so much that he actually got a corneal ulcer in his eye. The vet told me to try salmon oil, and it was not available at any of our local pet stores. It was a lot cheaper than some other places that were selling the product online. Absolutely a most have for doggie allergy sufferers.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok, but expensive
this looks ok until you realize how much bigger the serving size must be in order to achieve the same results as with other brands. Many of the "human" brands, for example, require half the dosage. If you have a big dog like I do, it gets expensive. I am sticking with human brands for now such as Carlson's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great - Less Aroma Compared to Grizzly Salmon Oil, May 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Alaskan Bear Treats Wild-Alaskan Salmon Oil for Dogs (Misc.)
Salmon oil works wonders and is beneficial from a number of perspectives - allergic reactions, joint inflammation (various healing and growth mechanisms), as well as cardiovascular - omegas do wonders in many different biochemical pathways. I find this Alaskan Bear Salmon Oil to be a great supplement to any dog food. We've found that the smell is much less on the dogs as compared to the Grizzly Salmon Oil I used for a few months. The color of the Alaskan Bear oil seems darker and of a higher quality (at least to me). Our dogs are big, bull mastiffs (150lbs)- with equally large breaths, so it's nice to reduce the salmon smell but retain all the benefit. Highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Oil in a Jumbo, No-Leak Container, April 11, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We give our Golden 3 pumps of this oil with each meal and it has really improved his coat and a nagging skin condition he has. The oil is dark and seems to be of excellent quality.

The large container is mess-free and means I don't need to be buying it as often. It really lasts.

I think this also makes meals tastier for our Golden, so he doesn't skip meals as often (for example when there is a female dog in heat nearby).

Good stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Transformed my dog's coat!, June 6, 2009

This review is from: Alaskan Bear Treats Wild-Alaskan Salmon Oil for Dogs (Misc.)
This is my first Amazon review although I've been shopping on this site for over seven years. This product is truly amazing. I rescued a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix almost three years ago when she was 3-1/2. A former vet tech that I met right after I rescued Esme told me that I would be dealing with skin allergies for the rest of her life. Unfortunately she was spot on. I have tried different dog foods and even went the steroid route (doing low doses twice a day), but thought long and hard about the long term effects of being on even a low dose steroid after doing some research and decided I needed to find a healthier solution. This is what led me to order this product. I placed the order on May 11, 2009 and received it two days later (I mention this so you can understand the time line). She had been completely weaned off the meds by this time and subsequently had lost most of the hair on her back and sides. I was fairly distraught because she was constantly itching and scratching.

With all products that are supplied dietarily, time and patience is required. Well, things have dramatically turned around for her. Within two weeks her coat had filled back in and now, just a little over three weeks later, Esme's coat is thick, shiny and soft to the touch.

I use the recommended daily dose, applying it to the top of her dog food twice a day. She eats a grain-free, fish-based dog food from Canada that is biologically appropriate, but I really have to give HUGE props to this product. I give this Salmon Oil the highest marks because although Esme looks better, more importantly, she is healthier and happier. She is no longer suffering from persistent skin allergies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Minimized my vacuum cleaning days!, January 5, 2009

We first learned about Alaska Bear Treats - Salmon Oil for dogs because our English Bulldog shed so bad. We tried it and noticed a tremendous improvement in her coat AND much less shedding! At one time we ran out and did not buy it again for some time and sure enough, the shedding was back in full force. Needless to say, we will always use this product as long as we have a dog that sheds. If I may say one more thing, Bulldogs are prone to several diseases especially skin disorders and our vet keeps saying how healthy she is (3 1/2yrs) and is just waiting for the day she will be coming in with issues. I'll never let that happen! :)

Our 1 beagle had skin allergies so bad, she was chewing herself raw. After some cortisone shots our vet suggested salmon oil. We've been using it for a year and her skin and coat are beautiful. Her coat's shiny & soft and no more allergy outbreaks and no more cortisone shots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dogs love it, easy to dispense, October 20, 2008

This review is from: Alaskan Bear Treats Wild-Alaskan Salmon Oil for Dogs (Misc.)
Update: I had to give my dogs much less than the recommended amount, since they put on a few pounds after I added this to their diets and dispensed it according to what the package recommends.

*~*~*~

My dogs have not been using this long enough for me to know if it is going to help their coats or not, but they find it to be a tasty addition to their normal meals. It is super easy to use, just squirt it on top of their kibble. It has a pretty fishy smell, and they have salmon breath for a while after eating their meal, but they think its tasty so I can deal with their breath. I will buy more of this once we've used the bottle we bought already.

My Papillon's coat has shown a real improvement on this product. He is getting a sheen to his previously cottony coat. I'll keep using this!
