Extremely dissapointed. Product very incomplete, so as to render it nearly useless. Author tried, but not very hard. Would not reccomend this guide to anyone.

While this book is fairly informative and useful, it lacks enough information and/or illustration to positively identify mushrooms for forager's consumption.

Sadly, I didn't read through this book until it was too late to return it. But I would have if I could have. Information is incomplete, e.g. the author mentions there are poisonous look-alikes for the king bolete but doesn't tell you what they are or how to tell one from the other. I'll be taking another guide to Alaska and donating this to the library book sale.

A guide specific for the Alaskan Wilderness. A must have for any Alaskan mushroom hunters collection.

I've always been a bit leary of harvesting and eating wild mushrooms, but will soon be faced with a situation where it may become necessary. I found this reference very reassuring and full of great information about the proper identification, possible adverse reactions, and palatability of the most common Alaskan mushrooms. I feel confident that, armed with this guide, I can appropriately select wild mushrooms to eat if necessary. I appreciate that the author advises you to collect with an experienced harvester and/or to verify your finds with a mushroom expert prior to eating them if at all possible. The differentiating information about edible and look-alike toxic mushrooms is clear and easy to understand, as well as common traits among toxic mushrooms to help you steer clear of possibly hazardous species that aren't identified in this book (as most of the species of Alaskan mushroom have yet to be identified and studied).

This book should be on every Alaskan's shelf. It is invaluable for identifying all the fungi in our gardens in August. Simple, easy to read and good pictures.

I have been wanting to learn more about mushrooms that are so abundant here after the August rains,and I really have enjoyed leafing thru this book to become better informed for next summer! Fun, and informative!
