Raised in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina, Marybeth Holleman transplanted to Alaska's Chugach Mountains over 25 years ago, where she lives with her husband, Rick Steiner, her son James, and two wild huskies. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (go tarheels!) and an MFA from the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she has taught creative writing and women's studies.
