2.0 out of 5 stars MEH...
Couldn't connect with it the way I did the first album. Not sure if it was the songwriting, the production, or maybe a change in Kem's style, I just wasn't feeling it.

This album has been collecting dust on my shelf.

KEM is a rarity in millenium r&b music. He writes, arranges and produces his own songs without any help, and his albums have no samples, guest rappers or drum machines chugging in the background. The song titles on his second album are about as original as the ALBUM II title, but Kem is one of the few artists whose music is so hypnotic, those cliches seem new. The best smoothies on this collection include "Heaven", "Into You", "Set You Free" and the inspiring "You Might Win" featuring a harmonica solo by the legendary Stevie Wonder. Only on "I Get Lifted", a cover of the classic George McCRae disco hit, is Kem out of his league. On this song, Kem's smooth arrangement is no match for the original slinky, sexy funk arrangement provided by disco master Harry Wayne Casey (a/k/a KC from KC and The Sunshine Band).

Kem's music features smooth Al Jarreau-like vocals, Sade instrumentation, gorgeous melodies, intoxicating chord changes, and top-notch musicianship. ALBUM II proves that you don't need a big name producer or cameo appearances by every rapper out there to make a great r&b album.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUSIC FOR YOUR SOUL, October 18, 2005
This review is from: Album II (Audio CD)
This is a collectible...a MUST HAVE!!!

The first time I listened to this R&B/Jazz-infused album, I couldn't believe the magic in Kem's voice - you get lost in it as it touches the depths of your soul...what amazing God-given talent! From falsetto to smooth natural back to falsetto in one breath! So, I ended up listening to it no less than 5 times that night!!! And haven't stopped since...I now have friends totally tuned into Kem and hankering for more!

Every track is wonderful, but my favourites are "Heaven" (check out the guitar work after the bridge - under Kem's vocals), "Set You Free", "I'm in Love", "Each Other", and of course "I Can't Stop Loving You" (the first song I'd ever heard from Kem...which is what motivated me to buy the album). "I'm Into You" is very reminiscent of Al Jarreau's vocal styling. Well, I've just listed more than half the song list and I feel like I want to add the other 5 to my favourites list too :).

I also love that his self-penned lyrics are clean, i.e., none of the sexually explicit, leave-nothing-to-the-imagination stuff that we're inundated with today. You could play this album around children with no worries - it's all about love - sweet, pure and simple. And you don't have to read the insert to figure out what he's singing...Kem's diction is excellent...all you need to do is listen.

I am now a Kem fan for life. He is what a victory story is all about, given his homeless and drug-addicted past. Looking forward to getting the "Kemistry" album and falling in love with that one too, but I can't wait to hear what he's going to hit us with next.

My advice: click on "Add to Cart" NOW!!! You will not regret it! Satisfaction Guaranteed!

I have always been a huge fan of any and all types of music, but it seems that in the past 5 or 6 years R&B and Hip Hop has taken a turn for th absolute worst. That is why I am so happy that Kem released his sophmore album. He is a true artist and hopefully he will continue to keep making great music. This album (like "Kemistry") is AMAZING. There are no bad tracks on either one of Kem's CDs. A MUST HAVE for any music lover.

This CD is always spinning anywhere I am. It has a song for every mood. It is uplifting, comfortable, erotic, spiritual, sensual shall I go on!!! It is a CD that can be enjoyed by married, widowed, single, older, younger(adults) or anyone who wants to invite a sense of peace into their life. He is an artist to which I will follow, musically, for a long time to come. I alternate between Kemistry and Album II. I longingly await his third album. It appears that KEM is going full throtle with no sign of stopping. He has alot to offer because as he has stated, as long as he has God in his life he will forever be filled.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, September 28, 2005
This review is from: Album II (Audio CD)
It is so refreshing and wonderful to hear true talent. I think that sometimes people get caught up in the person's image, what they look like and other superficial qualities of a so called artist, but rarely do they look at the talent of the musician. This man can sing SHOL NUF'. His music is so beautiful and calm. His music is what I want my love to look like, calm, sensual, passionate, beautiful, intelligent, and flavorful. I love Kem and it good to see talent again in R & B.

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY LOVELY, August 30, 2005
This review is from: Album II (Audio CD)
Kem's Album II has overshadowed the beautifully recorded Kemistry album. Album II is so sweet, spiritual and soulful. It's too hard not to love it. The track "You Might Win" is a true testament to Kem's own success. Just try. Whatever you dream of, just try. And what else could make it better than to have Stevie Wonder play on the track? Sweet!

Another fav is "Find Your Way". Soulful, catchy.

I love this album thoroughly! It has been on repeat in my CD player for months!

Also what I love about Kem's music, I don't have to skip tracks because of inappropriate lyrics that I would not want my children to hear. People of all ages, races and backgrounds will enjoy Kem's Album II.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD and easy listening, September 7, 2006
This review is from: Album II (Audio CD)
I picked this CD up because I heard some great things about Kem, I am in Japan so we can't listen to what is current in Radio and I am too busy to listen to the Internet Radio.

My favorite song is "I Can't Stop Loving You" and I also like "Into You" and "Heaven." But the whole CD is an easy listen, while getting ready to go out on a romantic date--my husband and I listened to it and enjoyed it and it really set the tone for the whole night. I would recommend this CD to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars "grown folks music", September 13, 2005
This review is from: Album II (Audio CD)
even though in my mind Kem's 2 albums are not yet "classics", they sure are classic in the sense that they evoke a time, a feeling, a mood, or a certain place in your life. kem was first heard here in chicago a couple of years back by the now quiet storm classic 'love calls', a smooth steppers jam with vocals that quickly make you think you are hearing a brand new al jarreau song. well, no, we weren't. after awhile, another song, 'matter of time', started getting strong airplay, and i wondered, "who is this brother?" after hearing his debut cd at a family reunion cookout last august 2004, i said to myself, "man, this young brotha is the real deal!" i quickly bought that first cd, "kemistry", which is a well made debut with nice songs on it, which FINALLY brings me to 2005, where we find a brand new release from detroit's very own kem, "album II". this new cd here, people, is what i and a few other folks like to call 'grown folks music'. the reason why? well, it is because we are hearing music being played on real instruments by real people in a real studio. not digital beats on digital keyboards on somebody's laptop in somebody's bedroom. real music, real emotions, real feelings poured out onto one fine cd. i refuse to make any comments about the songs themselves, for i'd be selling them short and you might not want to buy this cd. but, if have an open heart, an open (mature) mind, and like to have a break from all of the 50 cent/the game/pussycat dolls/crunk/pop crap on the radio today, step on over to your local record dealer for Kem's excellent "album II", you won't be disappointed
