I love this book for the following reasons:

* It's clear and easy to read.
* It's comprehensive and explains everything you need to know for the exam.
* It's loaded with examples, diagrams, practice questions, and labs (with answers, explanations, and solutions).
* Assuming you like your field, you will enjoy reading this book and not get bored at all (I promise!)
* Because of the above factors, I assure you it's going to be a fast read.

The knowledge you will gain from reading this book is invaluable. I particularly enjoyed the ending chapters especially the ones that talk about the IP/MPLS services network and the different services that can be implemented in that network like Virtual Private Wire Service (VPWS), Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), and Virtual Private Routed Network (VPRN).

This is an excellent study guide for the NRS I exam! I already had some knowledge of half the topics in the book, but by reading the chapters and taking (and retaking) the self assessments until I got a majority correct I gained the understanding needed to pass the exam. Still, I plan on keeping the book for reference.

I have 20+ years of experience in L2-L3 computer networking but I am new to Alcatel-Lucent.

Using this text I was able to prepare for the NRS I exam and pass with a 95%, 15% above the threshold.

The book is generally well written and easy to follow.

Understand my reference point. I have been teaching IP addressing, Ethernet and STP, OSPF, BGP, etc for a long time. If you are new to networking you may find you need to augment this text to feel fully competent.
