Yes, this is a reissue, the original still being available for about $20 more. I am not absolutely sure, but I believe the only thing the original has that the reissue doesn't, is the booklet. I can attest that this does NOT have a booklet, or track listing, or documentation of any kind. It's the only DVD I have ever seen (over maybe $3) that does not have an insert, not even an advertisement. I notified the seller and they said they opened two other copies for my benefit, and no insert. So, if you think the $20-more version has documentation, and you think the documentation is worth $20 more, then that will be the version to get.

Maybe it is possible the missing documentation says something about this very strange production that makes it understandable, or at least gives some indication what they were thinking (if anything) when they threw it up on stage. But I doubt it, reading the majority of reviews on the original:
Gluck - Alceste / Robert Wilson · John Eliot Gardiner · Anne Sofie von Otter · English Baroque Soloists · Théâtre du Chatelet

Why then do I give it three shining stars, rather than the single brown dwarf which it so richly has gone out of its way to beg for? Several reasons. First, because I am insane. Second, because I like the SOUND of the performance; I do like Gardiner's approach to Gluck; even though some of the soloists are not native francophones and it shows; and even though the recorded sound is somewhat flat and distant, like a budget-label LP from the 1950s, I do enjoy listening to it.

And finally, I am trying to grudgingly convince myself that it really is a "traditional" performance, because I am desperately and incredibly HARD-UP for traditional performances of Gluck particularly.

I just received this DVD. In comparing it to my 2001 Image entertainment DVD, the singers, conductors, location, etc are all the same. This may not be obvious from the descriptions.
