Book Description

April 2004
The Alchemy of Energy offers a fresh look at the alchemy involved in human interactions, specifically the coaching relationship in its many forms. In The Alchemy of Energy we assume that all humans, regardless of situation, are biologically wired to grow and evolve and that many of the things we do that don't make any sense or are downright harmful to us are, in fact, legitimate attempts to make our lives work. Using many insights and discovers from the world of quantum science, this book provides an in-depth exploration The CODE ModelT, a powerful new tool for de-coding how we have learned to make sense of the world around us. The CODE Model links our structures of thought to the body's energy centers, allowing us to see our bodies and the physical "symptoms" we experience as metaphors for the structures of thought that are holding them in place.

Written by Gwen McCauley, an experienced business coach who has used The CODE Model for many years, this book invites anyone who coaches, supervises, manages or teaches to consider the state of their own intrapersonal clarity and its impact on their ability to support others. Gwen leads the reader through a brief history of the development of The CODE Model, and offers an in-depth exploration of the various elements of the model, including many useful tables, illustrations and recommended readings. A detailed chapter on Working with The CODE Model provides more than sufficient information to successfully engage clients. Along the way the reader is offered many Invitations for Exploration in order to become familiar with their thinking and their bodies in new ways. For experienced coaches, Gwen also provides a compelling exploration of the skills useful to creating magical results with clients and invites us to consider the distinction between 'doing coaching' and 'being coach'! The Alchemy of Energy is filled with stories from Gwen's experiences with her clients and provides examples of how other people are using The CODE Model in diverse applications such as international sales & marketing, executive coaching, tutoring, wellness coaching, corporate communications and team building.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something Different, July 7, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Alchemy of Energy (Paperback)
There are lots of people out there who are very happy to tell you what to do to get the life you want. And there are lots of people out there who are happy to tell you what should be important to you in your life. This book does neither. What it does do is help you to look inside yourself to develop your own questions. It is the first book about working with energy that I've read that doesn't get all hung up about "good energy" and "bad energy" and spend a lot of time telling you how to deal with the "bad energy".

I especially liked beginning to think about the people and events in my life as metaphors. I know that I'll keep referring back to this book for reminders about how I can think about things differently when problems surface in my life.

I also appreciated the many stories this author used to illustrate how she works with her clients. My only criticism of the book is that I wish there were more of them. This has definitely given me a lot to think about.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Alternate Approach, July 4, 2004
This review is from: The Alchemy of Energy (Paperback)
If you're used to the Dr. Phil types and they've provided you with significant personal growth, then that's great. But if not, or if you're courious about other approaches; here's an alternate one using what's inside not what's outside your body. Clear, concise and well written. Take the first step to drastically changing your everyday life with this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Changing the conversation, October 13, 2004
This review is from: The Alchemy of Energy (Paperback)
In her book, The Alchemy of Energy, Gwen McCauley has offered a new world view which may fundamentally change the conversations you have with yourself and others.

By expanding on a new interpretation of the chakra system (one which is aligned with the levels of thinking work of Bateson, Dilts and LeBrun) called the CODE Model, McCauley has fundamentally expanded the conversations we can have with ourselves about what our reality is, how we move through life, and who we believe we are capable of becoming.

The book is a great primer for those involved in coaching and mentoring, but it's more than that. McCauley also offers a view of human-ness that is expansive, ever-changing, growing. When you start to view your world through the autopoeitic lens she describes, you begin to truly see yourself as a self-created and self-creating being every minute of your life. If you're searching for meaning in your life, McCauley offers a rich and rewarding way to find it.
