5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Boxset, April 15, 2009
By
This review is from: Alchemy Index, Vols. I-IV [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
This vinyl box set of all four volumes of Thrice's Alchemy Index is simply amazing. Each set was handmade and has taken over 2 months to be finished since original release date which was back in February 17th. Sets come numbered and you can just see that a lot of time went into making this collection special. The idea to make the piece into a book was a clever idea as it brings to mind an old alchemy book. It's been a long time coming but it was definitely worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Thrice fans, May 24, 2009
This review is from: Alchemy Index, Vols. I-IV [Vinyl] (Vinyl)
A little history on this amazing vinyl set (at bottom):

This vinyl set seems like it almost never came to fruition. It was such an incredibly extensive product that it forced the release date to be pushed back for what seemed like an eternity. It did, however, finally make it through production and I can proudly say that this is the most elaborate, beautiful vinyl set I own.

This set is a must have for any serious Thrice fan/vinyl enthusiast. Each disk is pressed on standard audiophile 180 gram colored vinyl. Each colored vinyl correlates with its appropriate theme (i.e.: Fire- Red vinyl.)

The box set opens just like a large book, each vinyl is carefully tucked inside its own individual page. On each page is an elaborate layout of beautiful artwork and lyrics. Any Thrice fan will undoubtedly appreciate the time put in to making this set.

A concern of mine with this set was that the audio quality would not meet my expectations. I was instantly disproved the moment my needle touched down on this amazing set of wax. The actual sound quality of the records is superb. For those of you who are interested in buying this set to listen (more than look), I highly reccomend it!

Time line of release-related events:

- 12/18/08 Alchemy index Vinyl set announced

- 2/17/09 Release date set.

- 1/31/09 Pre orders go up.

- First production delay reschedules to 3/10/09 release date.

-Vagrant announces second delay, this time with NO future release date being set; "We underestimated the time necessary to complete each piece."

- 4/9/09 Vagrant announce Vinyl set is really to be shipped.

- 4/15/09 Box set is labeled as "cursed" by Vinyl Collective. "there was a blemish on the stamper for side G of the 4th 10' and the result was a really noticeable looping scratch half way into the first track... Sorry friends, but the light is at the end of the tunnel. Soon, very soon, you will have these great records in your hands and on your record player."

-Box sets finally shipped 4/30/09
