Third Ear Band - 'Alchemy' (Toshiba),
By
This review is from: Alchemy (Audio CD)
Originally released in 1969, as this was Third Ear Band's first record - but it's quite similar to their 1970 self-titled work, often called the 'Elements' lp {see my review} and possibly a tad better. Good raga-rock to experience when you're in the right mood. Cuts that I thought showed some promise were the ten-minute "Ghetto Raga", "Druid One" and the expressive "Dragon Line". Wanted to also mention that when I heard this CD for the very first time, it occured to me that maybe 'Alchemy' and 'Elements' sound like they easily could have been written and recorded around the very same time frame. In other words - perhaps 'Alchemy' saw the light of day first and BECAUSE in those days bands usually released one-record lp's, in that 'Elements' was simply put out a year following. As it stands, I believe both titles were later put out as a 2-CD pressing on the Gott Discs label. Worthy idea - great listening.
