Excellent breathalyzer,
By
This review is from: AlcoHAWK PT500 Breathalyzer (Health and Beauty)
After negatively reviewing and returning the BACTRACK breathalyzer, I ordered this one as a replacement, hoping for better results. Yes, it is a lot more expensive, but it works and it works great. It has several settings and keeps count of the total number of readings. So far it has seemed to be very accurate. The only minor downside is that although the blow time can be set from 3 - 8 seconds, it always resets to 5 seconds every time the unit is turned off and back on.UPDATE (4/2/10): Well this breathalyzer has become the hit of several parties. It's becomes quite the entertainment piece and is also a great way for figuring out who is wasted and shouldn't be driving. As with all breathalyzers, you do have to wait the 20 minutes to get an accurate reading. If you blow in it right after a tequila shot, your BAC will read really high since all that alcohol is right in your mouth and hasn't been absorbed fully into your bloodstream. However, this thing has recorded several hundred readings and is still working great. After you use it enough you get a really good idea of where you are on the scale and I can pretty much tell whether or not I'm over 0.08 without even blowing into it. I've done it enough so now I know. It has definitely been worth the money I paid for it!

Who knew about recalibration costs?,

I guess it works. It's fairly simple to use and carries the reading to thousandths. It's been interesting to see how I feel at .08, and it's turned into a party toy. Be advised that the instructions say to get it calibrated after 200 uses, and the recalibration cost about $30. There is no giant headline telling you that at the point of purchase.

Excellent alcohol tester,
This review is from: AlcoHAWK PT500 Breathalyzer (Health and Beauty)
The Alcohawk PT500 alcohol tester is as good as a much larger machine costing twice as much. I usedto have a much larger fuel cell machine until it was stolen out of my car when I brought my car to be serviced.I recently bought the PT 500 from Amazon. The accuracy is listed as .005 + or - at 05%. I would say it's probably more like + or - .001. It quickly always gives the same values and maybe down .001 as the kidneys uses the alcohol. This machine is necessary if you drink and drive afterwards. A wonderful machine.

This item is easy to use, and I believe it is reliable - when we received it however the volume and force of the exhaled breath to get this device to register was too much for my wife to be able to do, and I could barely exhale long enough and forcefully enough to get it to read a blood alcohol level. I sent it back for adjustment and now it works great!

Great product,

Really easy to use this product. Remeber to buy more blowing tubes. That is the only down fall, becuase you do not get many with the original purchase.

Easy to use, appears to be accurate and you do not need to blow as long as I did with my older and cheaper meter. Just make sure you wait after your last drink, for at least 10 min. And drink some water before the test. Alcohol traces in your mouth seem to really influence the reading and give a much higher result. But I think that goes for all meters. I recommend it!

It is a good product, highly recommend. Only concern is the readings seem kind of low for how I feel, but I am still assuming this product is accurate. I know, however, of specific times where I felt wasted and knew it would be terrifying to drive and ended up blowing .07 or so, and my friends would agree that it makes no sense. All in all, assuming it is accurate, it is a great product and would highly recommend.

Great product,

After getting a DUI, I decided to buy this product. I find it to be very accurate. For something that is so costly(driving over the limit) and that cant be measured, might be the best 150 bucks ever spent.

This didn't last very long. It worked great for a little while but after a couple months with it it started giving very unreliable readings. I thought this was my fault until it completely failed and now no longer works. It really should have lasted longer than that. Maybe I used it too much and I know it says in the instructions that it lasts for I think a few hundred readings. I probably hit that mark. So I guess this is a warning to people who think they will have this for years. If you only plan on using it say once a week or in an emergency or leaving it in your car or something.(Never drink and Drive!) Then I would say get it because it should work for you. I think I'll wait until an updated one comes along. My uses were more for curiosity instead of actually needing this.
