This thermometer is crap. It broke the first time I used it at about 170 Degrees, ruining a batch of all grain beer....

While nothing in the thermometer will poison you when it breaks, it WILL break while you're using it. Mine cracked at about 200 degrees, spilling some of the alcohol and little steel weight balls into the wort. My beer turned out fine, but still a real pain. Check out the home brew blogs about these thermometers. There are lots of cases of these thermometers breaking, with resulting freak outs. The previous reviewer here probably didn't need to toss his batch, but it is still very frustrating.
