Set Includes:ProGrabit #1 Bit â€" Screws No. 4-7; Bolts No. 10ProGrabit #2 Bit â€" Screws No. 8-10; Bolts 1/4"ProGrabit #3 Bit â€" Screws No. 11-14; Bolts 5/16"

From the Manufacturer

Pro Grabit 3 piece extractor kit works on damaged screws and broken bolts from as small as No. 4 screw to as large as 5/16 in. bolt. Quickly and easily removes most damaged screws such as Hex, Phillips, Torx, Square Drive; sizes No.4 - 14 from wood, plastic or metal up to 3 inches in length. Two-step drill bit and extractor in one tool extracts broken bolts and damaged screws fast; use in reverse only when drilling and extracting with reversible hand held power drill. Can drill up to grade 8 or 10.9 class fasteners; extracts bolt sizes No. 10- 5/16 in. (5mm - 10mm). Serrated extracting end of tool results in greater torque for hard to remove bolts and screws. No bolt preparation required. Professional grade multi-purpose extractors compatible with "quick-connect" chuck systems or chucked directly into drill. Good for multiple extractions with single tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new solution to an old problem January 6, 2011
Verified Purchase
In order to judge a product of this type, finding out that it works (for me) isn't good enough. Finding out that it works when other extractors fail is what makes the difference. I've used a variety of other extractors over the years, and by variety, I really mean different sizes or brands of extractors that are essentially of the same design. One problem I had was never having the right size. The other was that I often ended up drilling out the screw heads after giving up, and then untwisting what was left after disassembly.

Traditional screw extractors have many issues. They have a gradual taper, making it difficult for them to grab after drilling out a shallow hole. They require something to hammer them in place, even when clearance may present an obstacle. Likewise, drilling is more of a constraint with traditional bits in a quick change chuck than with the Aldens, which are shorter. Finally, traditional extractors need something to turn them, and having the right handle from a die set is not always going to be the situation.

The Alden set let me extract several cap head screws that an Irwin Tools 53545 Spiral Flute Screw Extractors, 6 Piece Set not only failed to extract, but had also made the problem worse. On one slightly stripped cap head screw, a minimal amount of boring with one end of an Alden extractor let me flip the extractor over and back out the screw easily. On one that had been predrilled for another extractor, I didn't expect the Alden to work. But I somehow managed to get it to bite in a hole much larger than it was designed for when I tilted it to the side.

All in all, I like the design much better than anything I've used in the past.

3.0 out of 5 stars Grabit works, but... July 2, 2008
By Roger
I used the Pro Grabit to remove 2 1/2" screws that have secured my deck for 20 years and have been intractable for many years. It worked well for a several screws, but then the extractors broke. Reading the warnings in the detailed instructions, I find: "Tool can be compromised if extracting large screws exceeding 2 inches in length and/or have aggressive threads".

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for heavy duty screws or bolts... June 29, 2012
This set is great for removing small sheet metal and wood screws that have stripped out/corroded over time. I bought this set some time ago and it sat in my tool box unused for about 3 months until I had some automotive trim that needed to be removed so I could pull and clean the carpeting. I had a total of 3 screws that were corroded that easily stripped when trying to remove them along with my door sill trim on my 20+ year old truck. I actually had just got done drilling out some 10mm grade 8 seat retention bolts that seized up with a set of cobalt drill bits and was really sickened at the fact of doing more drilling. However, I remembered that I purchased these and decided to give them a try despite not expecting much from the set. I started with the smallest bit possible and it ended up being all that I needed to remove the 3 stripped out screws, making my life a lot easier. I had the three out in a matter of just a few minutes.

Remember, just like drilling anything out, start with the smallest size possible and work your way up only if you have to. Don't expect these to bail you out on seized bolts or screws but rather light to medium duty screws/bolts that have lost their head. Two days ago I was a beginner at drilling. After drilling for about 3 hours on 4 grade 8 seized up bolts I now consider myself well seasoned. Not that I want to go through it again. But, it is definitely nice to see when a product like this comes around to perhaps make things much easier/less time consuming on the user.

I also purchased a set of hammer in screw extractors that I tried on a few odds and ends and couldn't get the darned things to ever bite. These are much nicer and compliment my 18V Makita drill driver very nicely. It's not something you'd use daily, but it is definitely something worth while to have and at least give it a shot when the time may come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Saver December 19, 2011
I picked up this 3-piece kit at my local Home Depot. I had been putting together a piece of Ikea furniture, and was apparently a bit too eager when tightening some screws. When I had to loosen several of them to adjust the angle of a door, they wouldn't budge, and then stripped. Panicked that I had just ruined a brand new, expensive piece of furniture, I turned to the internet. "How to remove stripped screws" led me to this product.

In short, this kit saved me. After carefully reading some Amazon reviews and the included directions, I started on the first screw. The thing came out so smoothly, I called my girlfriend in to see how awesome this tool was. A couple of the others didn't come out quite as easily (I had to remove six in total), but they all came out, and the tool looks no worse for wear. The only real trouble I had was when I got overzealous (and overconfident in the miraculous nature of the extractor) and went too quickly. The tool slipped in the screw, and I had to start over. Especially when using the extracting end, you have to drill SLOWLY. This allows the gripping threads to really dig their way into the cone you just drilled. If you let the threads dig their way in slowly, it's game-over for that screw; it's coming out.

Apart from going slow, I would recommend taking safety precautions. Wear goggles and gloves -- the tool is creating tiny shards of the screw, which could easily get into your eyes or your skin. Use a paper towel to wipe the bit off while you work, and rinse it and your hands when you're done.

One important note: according to the directions, this particular model isn't recommended for screws or bolts larger than 2" in length. I imagine some of the reviewers who had trouble weren't aware of that point. If you have bigger screws, you'll need a bigger tool. Used under the right circumstances, this tool performed perfectly. I couldn't be happier with the results.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quality is lacking......a broke tool in a broken bit.
Worked great the first time, on the second use the extractor tip broke off in the hole I had drilled using the other side of the tool. Not impressed with the quality of this set.
