This is an exciting book - and I mean exciting!,

Hi! I am a kid in third grade. I live in the U.S.A. I give this book five stars because it is very exciting and I mean exciting! I recommend this book for a 7-8 year old. For grown ups, it's probably boring for them. Maybe they will think it's childish. The main character is Aldo. Another character is Dede. She is cool and funny. The mean guy is the one who calls him names like applesauce, baby, and big fat baby. So hopefully you people can read this story. Aldo is 8 years old. Aldo has brown hair and so does Dede. On the cover there is 7 people and one guy throwing an egg to a different boy. To the people who have not read this book, can you please give it a try? It's really good.

This is such a wonderful series about a boy who moves from New York to a small town. He is vegetarian and other kids tease him but he ends up making a special friend, a girl with a big immagination. My son is a vegetarian and so am I. I think this book is great for kids on both sides, whether they are a vegetarian or not, to learn to respect peoples choices.
If your child is the odd one in class for any reason this is a good book to get them. And it is especially wonderful if you are rasing a vegetarian child to show vegitarian children they are not alone even if sometimes they feel like it. It deals with issues like teasing and standing up for what you believe in all wrapped into a childrens book from a wonderful, famous author.

----------------------------------------------
"Aldo Applesauce" by Johanna Hurwitz (William Morrow, 1979) ---------------------------------------------- If you've enjoyed the all classic Beverly Cleary books and are looking for similar material -- sweet, believable stories about regular kids in everyday situations -- then you might want to check out Johanna Hurwitz and her New York-based ouvre. This is the second of several books about a young boy named Aldo Sossi, now in fourth grade and mving to a new city and school, where he tries to fit in and worries about making new friends. Almost instantly, he gets a nickname: Applesauce, which is a play on his real name, Sossi, and which really gets on his nerves -- but he also makes a friend, a girl named DeDe who helps show him the ropes. As always, the tone of Hurwitz's writing is a delight - this book is fun to read aloud, with characters you can grow close to. Recommended! (Joe Sixpack, ReadThatAgain children's book reviews) |
