3.0 out of 5 stars Silly but fun, July 31, 2007
On the surface this seems like a silly kids film but compared to some others, it was actually quite enjoyable and harmless. A big warning however: any adult watching it will cringe at the stereotypes; the blond British boy is always intelligent, heroic, a natural leader, etc.; the Africans are superstitious, silly, illterate, poor, etc. You get the idea. The worst is the evil Chinese lady who is of course played by a white woman. This stereotype (and her henchmen) are much worse than the Charlie Chan movies. The adults are pretty stupid also. So if you can look beyond these problems it is a guilty pleasure movie. A real standout was the young South African actor Alfred Ntombela as the British boys' sidekick.

3.0 out of 5 stars Saturday Afternoon Matinee, September 24, 2007
By Ellison Lowry (Pasadena, CA) - See all my reviews
As a kid I loved Saturday afternoons because regular TV stations would show really outlandish type films that were funny and adventurous. Alec To The Rescue! was one of many really good B-type movies that I watched as a teenager one afternoon. There are moments when I thought man this movie is ridiculous, the characters talk to the camera every once in awhile, and they get in long fights that seem endless.
Also it is cool to see how the "boy-hero" started to get an outing in films of this nature before Harry Potter and other better written adventure stories came along.
If you have an afternoon, especially a Saturday, take the time to check this film out, it's cool.

2.0 out of 5 stars Family Film, June 12, 2007
Alec to the rescue is a substandard movie that is great for kids to watch alone or with their parents. The situations are pretty predictable and their is little to no plot in the entire movie. The acting itself was below standard, but if you get around that you can watch the movie for the scenery. All that adds to why it is the perfect family film. This is also why this film got two stars from me.
