Alejandro Sanz - MTV Unplugged

I have always been a fan of Alejandro Sanz, when his unplugged was released on CD I ran to the store to purchase it. I waited (like a child on X-Mas eve) for the DVD to be released only to see get disappointed when I saw that their is a difference of roughly one second between what you hear and what you see, it sounds as if it was re-recorded in a studio, even the crowd clapping sounds computerized. Please don't take this review as if I don't like Sanz music, I have loved his music ever since he released "3" his third CD and own every single CD he has released, my recommendation is buy the DVD and listen to it with the TV off, or just buy the CD.

The dvd quality is poor, because it looks as if Alejandro is lip sinking the whole time! It's a bit of a disappointment, but Alejandro is not. He puts forth is best effort in this unplugged and it is very intimate and beautiful. all of his hits are there and he sings them with a lot of passion.

If you like Alejandro, you see lots of him here, not a disappointment, but the the DVD's audio has got issues!!

Alejandro Sanz is better on video than he is live in concert...what am I saying the Unplugged is a concert, just a different format. I bought the tape and I have to admit, the man sings with fire and passion. His songs roll out of his mouth and connects with people in a profound way. The tape itself has some of his many greatest hits and performs them with a little improv...which isn't bad at all!! I recommend this video to anyone who likes Alejandro Sanz music or those interested in a change of the usual.

Alejandro Sanz is the best singer, he is so nice... this concert is the best of the best...

He is singing only for me on this dvd (this is how you will also feel as you watch). If you are a fan, you have to buy this. He will take you away with his lyrics. It is that good.

This concert DVD is unlike the CD of the same name, which may account for people's poor reviews - the CD is in a different category, with some songs re-recorded (there appear to have been two concerts), and with applause added where there was none in the actual concert (in the middle of "Toca para mi" for example). In fact, the concert was not edited to perfection, and includes a not very polished version of "Y solo se me ocurre amarte" in which Sanz varies the lyrics, skips a line or two, and gets ahead of the musicians at one point.

So why give it a rating of five? This is the concert that hooked me - Alejandro Sanz always sounds good, but has rarely sounded *this* good - warm, personal, emotional, crafting each song, and connecting with his audience. This recording includes a brilliant version of "Toca para mi", not usually heard live, and a new version of "Se le apago la luz" that was so much better than the original version (from his first album) that he included this live Unplugged version on his greatest hits album.

The concert shows his very sweet persona, shy at times, but utterly in control of his voice, backed by three talented guitarists and a full orchestra. The audience is unable to resist joining in on "Corazón partío", and we also get to hear for the first time his song "Aprendíz", previously performed only by Malú. The other songs are a nice mix of early and mid-career songs, including the powerful "Cuando nadie me ve", "Siempre es de noche", and a completely rewritten version of "Como te echo de menos," with all new lyrics.

I loan out this DVD to people to get them interested in Sanz and it always works; a CD is easy to ignore, but the charisma and the powerful voice and sincere emotion that come through on the DVD always pull people in.

I read these reviews previous to me and I didn't buy the DVD until my next door neighbor's birthday came up and I said." it can't be that bad!" and I am giving it to her as a gift....I couldn't resist and opened it and saw it last night....she'll understand

I have listened to the CD unplugged hundreds of times , so I knew the songs and his voice.

#1... there is no "lipsynching" going on at all.he's LIVE! LIVE!LIVE!.....what I see is that it was poorly set up by the sound people, because his voice is louder than the rest of the band,which i don't mind.
#2....I think there's 1-2 songs that are an exact duplicate of the concert on DVD to CD..everything else was either re-recorded or edited.it's just not the same voice on the cd..which I don't mind because they're both magnificent

ALL THIS PUT ASIDE IT IS A CONCERT , IF YOU LIKE ALEJANDRO, THAT YOU MUST HAVE!!!!!!
PS: going to see him on May1,2004 at Madison Square Garden theatre(New York City)
