5.0 out of 5 stars Works well
The room with this product in it gets cleaned periodically, and we noticed a significant reduction in the amount of dust on the furniture, so I would say this filter is working well. Online sites rate this Air Purifier as removing over 95% of air borne particles in a controlled situation, making it comparable to $600+ models, and far superior to the products you see on...

3.0 out of 5 stars Power supply hums & watch out for refurbished units
Pros: Nice looking, easy to operate, filter replacements are not too costly ($39), compared to some other companies.

Cons: There is a low-pitch humming noise from the unit at the low fan speed that is a little annoying.
For $399, be sure you receive a brand new unit from Alen, not a refurbished one like I did.

I would say this product is great, but you should do your own research.

5.0 out of 5 stars The A350 Is A Breath Of Fresh Air, December 26, 2007

I purchased the Alen A350 after a lot of research. Our bedroom is quite large but we keep the unit fairly close to the bed. We noticed the improvement immediately (we've had for approx 4 months now). The next to highest speed is what we prefer and it is not super quiet but, hey it's a fan - what do you expect? When we want, we drop the fan speed down a notch and it is quiet. Very simple to operate right out of the box, and is effective. I recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased thus far., April 6, 2008

This review is from: Alen A350 Air Purifier
After spending some time researching the large number of air purifiers on the market, I decided this would be the best option in regard to price, efficiency and quality. The A350 had good reviews for the most part, so I went ahead and ordered it. The anticipation was high waiting for it to arrive and, since its arrival, it has not let us down. This seems like a well-built product and I anticipate many years of service out of it (it comes with a lifetime warantee). It's got four fan speeds, and we seem to use 2 the most, particularly when sleeping. Three and four are a bit too noisy, four being fairly aggressive. We like this though, particularly if we've been away from the house for a while and we want some quick air cleaning. The controls on the machine are simple yet very functional, and it seems to me that my sinuses are not as clogged since having this purifier. This review is fairly long, but the reviews were very helpful to me in choosing a product. This is the only air purifier I have ever owned, but am very happy with it this far. I hope this review has been helpful. I'd say get one if you're reading this and considering it. You've got nothing to lose but some air pollution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superior combination-product and customer service!, May 6, 2010
This review is from: Alen A350 Air Purifier
I had to share what an excellent air purification system and customer service I've found with the Alen Corp.
I have a daughter with Autism and extreme allergies to everything-especially environmental allergens like dust, mildew, chemicals, pollution, pollen, etc. and have spent thousands of dollars trying to reduce the levels in our home.
I've tried Electrocorp, Aller Air, Holmes, Panasonic, and have been dissatisfied by performance, ease & thoroughness of cleaning, and customer service in getting replacement filters.
I've had my Alen 350 running over a year, and can tell how effective it is when I change the filter and clean the housing,(which is really easy by the way) & how much we suffered when we were without it 3 wks at the beginning of Spring. When I experienced a minor problem with it after our one year anniversary, I was helped immediately and graciously by customer service-they even followed up to make sure the solution was satisfactory! I've just decided to replace my downstairs unit (another brand) with another Alen unit based upon all the above........
they believe so heartily in their products they offer LIFETIME WARRANTY-unheard of in these days and times.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good unit, but fairly expensive, February 9, 2010
By
This review is from: Alen A350 Air Purifier
I use this in a bedroom environment. The build quality appears quite good, and the fit between the filter element and the housing is nice and tight, which is critical for the unit to be effective. The A350 takes a single, large filter element which is easy to replace. There is an ion generator which can be turned on and off, however, other than a light on the front, it is not noticeable whether it really is producing ions which do anything. Alen advertises this is an 'ozone free' ion generator. I can generally smell ozone if a purifier generates any, and I can't detect any from this unit.

The noise on low speed (level 1 of 4 levels) is very low, however, level 2 produces noticeable noise (I guess one could get used to it) and I don't think anyone could sleep with it on level 3 or 4. As others have said, using level 1 or 2 while sleeping and 3 or 4 while not in the room is probably a good strategy.

It is unfortunate that the 'air cleaner/purifier' industry (like some others, such as the water purifier market) is rife with high price markups and questionable claims regarding units and widely varying quality. If one is not careful, one could pay a lot of money for an ineffective unit. I would say the A350 is a very effective unit, but it does cost a lot of money. Comparing prices and quality in this niche market is difficult, as there are some reputable companies with good quality but there are a LOT of disreputable companies with poor quality.

Overall, a quality product - but the markup/price is a too high to call this a great value. This really isn't a hi-tech cutting edge product ...

If you need single room air cleaning, this is an effective unit and can clearly help people maintain healthier indoor air quality.

Received the unit in 4 days in Hawaii(amazing)My only complaint is it was making a loud ticking noise at all speeds right out of the box. I contacted tech support. They responded in a few days by email. They told me how to open the unit and tighten a loose nut. It did fix the problem and works fine now. It helps with our vog on the Big Island.

5.0 out of 5 stars effective and a good value, July 5, 2008
This review is from: Alen A350 Air Purifier
The only caveat is that I've had it for but a month. That said, it's still as quiet (low speed) as I need. Additional speeds are noisy. Keeping the filter clean is easy- after I figured out how to access it. Which brings me to one small issue. The instruction book is an after-thought at best. Good illustrations to accompany the too brief text would improve things. Perhaps their site could be more thorough in providing info. However, it is worth noting that the few questions I had, were answered quickly and completely. Time will tell, particularly regarding the quietness that it currently exhibits, but so far it's a very effective unit. It delivers as promised.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good buy, August 13, 2008
By
This review is from: Alen A350 Air Purifier
It definitely removes odor from the air in my studio apartment, which is about 450 square feet. It is particularly effective with the "Ionizer" turned on. However, I only use this feature occasionally (e.g., right after cooking fish), as I worry about potential adverse health effects. I don't know whether such concern is truly warranted, but after the debacle with Sharper Image's purifiers, better safe than sorry.

The only drawback I can think of is the cost of replacement filters. That said, given that the machine is cleaning the air in your living space, something's got to handle the dirt/dust/germs, thus the price for a new filter is hardly a deal-breaker.

This review is from: Alen A350 Air Purifier
I've only had this air purifier a couple of days, and I'll definitely come back and edit this review if anything changes, but so far this is BY FAR the best air purifier I've ever had. I have allergy problems, and have used air cleaners in my bedroom for years. They've really helped. I've owned those made by Honeywell, and a top-of-the-line by Friedrich. This one is so much better.

Pros:

1) SO EASY. Nothing to install or put together. No long instruction manual for use. You take it out of the box, plug it in, and turn it on. That's it.

2) The button controls are very intuitive and easy. You press "on", adjust it to the speed you want, and push the iodizer button.

3) This unit is very slender and takes up a fraction of the room of my other purifiers. Plus, it's aesthetically really nice, which is great.

4) It does make a white noise sound, but I love this. I have gotten used to the sounds of air purifiers at night, and am at the point now that I sleep better with it. The great thing about this purifier is that the white noise is so consistent with no cracking or snapping sounds. (The problem with the Friedrich I owned just before this.)

5) Within a few minutes you could already smell and feel the difference in the air - it's that good.

6) There is an light indicator that tells you when to replace the hepa filter. It's supposed to last round 6 months, and although I haven't had to yet, it looks like it's easy to replace. Nothing else to clean or maintain.

Cons:

For me, nothing so far. But if you are looking for an air purifier that is silent, this isn't it. As I said, it does make a white noise sound, and the higher the power the louder the noise. But for me this was a plus since I like that sound and with this unit it's particularly soothing and consistent.

Highly, highly recommended.
