This product exceeded any and all expectations. The veneer is beautiful and the lacquer finish on top of it is thick and durable. It is much better than any "particle board" style book shelf I've ever owned. Definitely a piece of furniture that can be displayed any where in the house and will last for years to come.

I'd expected to get this bookcase put together and loaded and have time left over to do other things this evening. Nope. Just assembling it and cleaning up afterward has kept me up past my bedtime. The loading will have to wait.
The biggest culprit was lousy instructions. They were almost all pictures with very little text, and didn't even make it clear exactly which holes all the little pieces went into. Then there were the quick lock screw assemblies. I'd never seen these before and had no idea how they worked, and it took trial and error before I finally understood them. Last but not least, the screws didn't quite fit any of my screwdrivers. My standard Phillips head was a tad too large, and my small ones were too small. It made screwing difficult. The quick lock screws DO work, contrary to what one reviewer said about them in a review of another size of this item. Nevertheless I have no trouble understanding why he thought they didn't. Make sure you understand them before you start assembling this bookcase. You may also want a flashlight and a small tool, such as a small screwdriver, to insert into the screw holes to help position the locks. And make sure you turn the screws in ALL the way at Step 1. Otherwise you'll have slight gaps where the pieces fit together. A couple of minor cosmetic problems: (1) The back is fastened with those little sharp screws that eat into the wood. They show, and if you don't start them right, they won't be flat against the surface. Not good if you put this bookcase where the back can be seen, such as using it as a room divider. (2) Some of the locks are visible. Black plastic covers are provided to hide them, but I tossed these because I knew they wouldn't stay in place. Electrical tape or black sticky dots would work better. On the plus side the bookcase is quite attractive other than for the lock holes. And it's heavy and seems reasonably sturdy for a budget bookcase, although I'm not sure I would load it with a lot of heavy books. Fortunately I plan to use it for storing lighter items. I had thought to get larger versions of this bookcase for the scads of books I keep in my office. But now I don't think so. I don't want to put any more of these together, especially not larger ones! I'll be looking for something easier and sturdier.

This is a much better quality then I expected. Assembly was easy if you have experience putting furniture together of this type. Cam lock fasteners work well and have arrows on one of the screwdriver slots to show you how to position the fastener. The plastic covers that are supplied to cover the cam lock fasteners have a double sided adhesive tape so don't throw them out without trying them. They look much better then electrical tape too. The back panel is a veneered plywood which is much better than the thin paperbacked fiber board that other bookcase come with. Assembly takes a little skill and the result is a very nice bookcase.
