Dangerous Scientology propaganda,
This review is from: "Cult" Alert (Paperback)
In Paulette Cooper's book "The Scandal of Scientology" one will find a letter written by the new director of Scientology Inc.'s "Cult Awareness Network:" the same people who wrote "Cult Alert!" I quote from that letter here, below: "Rather than let my lawyers have all the fun, I will write to The letter continued with more accusations of guilt on the part of the father, along with praise of Scientology and concluded on this ominous note. "If you want to start a Donnybrook, Buddy, wail The letter, written on the Church of Scientology letterhead, was signed "with the utmost sincerity possible" by the "Reverend" Andrew Bagley, Organisational Secretary. There was a short P.S. appended: "Don't reply to this letter. If I want to get in touch with you, I'll be able to find you. Anywhere." P.S. The father paid the bill. P.P.S. His son took approximately $4,500 worth more "courses" in Scientology paying for them himself the next Mr. Andrew Bagley now runs the Cult Awareness Network--- the authors of this "Cult Alert!" book. Do yourself a favor: read Steven Hassan's book "Releasing the Bonds."

These people have no conscience,
By
This review is from: "Cult" Alert (Paperback)
How dare this "network" attempt to justify the brainwashing of human beings? People have the "RIGHT" to deceive and to BE deceived.. and,you should press charges against those who dare to un-deceive you. The only thing this board of directors is attempting to "Save" is the right of liars to lie. Reading this, you'd think that belonging to a cult is your God-given right as an American citizen, and you should be PROUD of it and DEFEND it. Protect your right to loose your money, your family, your job,and your property to any group that expertly and systematically lies. I have personally suffered from such a group. Thank God MY family and friends didn't read this book.

This is a apologist book that defends criminal, abusive cult,
By A Customer
This review is from: "Cult" Alert (Paperback)
I was greatly dissapointed in this book. People looking for information on how to help people trapped in criminal, destructive cults will also finmd this book worthless--- indeed, it is counter-productive, and in my opinion this book can result in vast harm. The book suggests that being in a criminal, destructive cult is okay, and that if a loved one or family member doesn't like this, they will just have to learn to "like" it. That is, the book claims, faslely, that mind control and slavery in cults is a "choice" that someone has made, and family must "learn" to "accept" that person's choice. I am therefore astonished that a publisher would print this crap, since it is so contrary to good sense and health. Do your self a favor: avoid this book. It's a waste of money, and it HURTS PEOPLE. If you wish to help someone free herself or himself from a crimin al, destructive cult, I suggest you look to a valid source.

Cult of Greed strikes again,
By A Customer
This review is from: "Cult" Alert (Paperback)
The "Board of Directors" of the new Cult Awareness Network are Scientologists. Don't let them fool you into thinking this book is anything other than an excuse for their own existance. It preaches acceptance and tolerance under the guise of religious freedom. If you want to read what cults are really about, do a search for Steve Hassan or Margaret Thaler Singer.Avoid this book!

This book opened my eyes about cults!!!,
By Lynne Sagner (Glendale, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: "Cult" Alert (Paperback)
I'm not sure what I was expecting when I picked up this book. Possibly some sweetness-and-light "good advice" about how not to panic if a loved one of mine was ever 'kidnapped' by someone or something I had heard of as a cult. I was skeptical - who WOULDN'T panic at the thought of such a thing, much less if it actually happened?? But I was more than pleasantly surprised. In fact the book was so interesting, I couldn't put it down and read it all the way through in one sitting! What was most interesting to me were the numerous examples of actual incidents and how they were handled. I also found fascinating the completely down to earth, common-sense, no nonsense approach to the subject. And even though it is doubtful that a friend or loved one of mine would ever end up in a cult-threat situation, on finishing the book I actually felt better! I realized it was because the author laid bare all the false data and conventional "wisdom," about cults. It made them no longer mysterious or frightening. Last but not least, the wonderful drawings through out the book made it an additional pleasure. My heartfelt thanks to the author and the Board of Directors of the NEW Cult Awareness Network for getting this book out and into the hands of the public! |
