5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with the mac, flawless victory!
I've used many Alesis products, the FireWire 12 replaced my smaller USB8 version of the product line. The USB8 wasn't working correctly with Mac OS X after some updates (around the time Leopard came out) and was causing my audio recordings to fill with static and pops.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is a lemon!!
This product has lots of issues.
Like no sound, or sometimes will just not be recognized.
It seems to work with some software like Albeton but it does not like Cakewalk in general.
Also even the mixer has been released for a while already, Alesis has not provided any real fixes for these problems.
No wonder why the price cuts!!

I've used many Alesis products, the FireWire 12 replaced my smaller USB8 version of the product line. The USB8 wasn't working correctly with Mac OS X after some updates (around the time Leopard came out) and was causing my audio recordings to fill with static and pops.

The Firewire one has the advantage over the USB device because Alesis ships their own drivers for OS X and you're not relying on Apple to update (read: fix) their USB drivers.

The only issue I had was with Audacity, the open source recording software, because it was unable to record only the mix down channels on the FireWire 12 (the higher channels) without recording silence on ALL other channels.

The FireWire product is sold, stays fairly cold when powered on and provides perfect clarity to recording. I use it three times a week for several hours and have for months without a single issue.

It's durable, contains just enough features without overwhelming the prosumer style audio record (as I'm a podcaster and videocaster). It has a few more inputs than I desire but I've got room for expansion in the later years.

Yet another piece of solid hardware by Alesis.

5.0 out of 5 stars great mixer for practice / recording, January 16, 2008

I've had this mixer for several months with no problems at all. I have an electronic drum kit and this allowed me to do full-on jams with my friends without pissing off the neighbors. I had originally bought the 8 track version for the same price I ended up getting the 12 track. Great value.
