Dangerous gift,

This fruit bowl was a gift to our family. We took it out of the box and placed it on the kitchen table. The next day the house almost caught on fire. Apparently the metal surface acted as a big lens and the plastic started melting and smoking. That day was sunny and the rays of light coming through the window worked as a lighter. Thank god exactly that day there was someone in the house during this time. We contacted the company Alessi and they responded that we have not read the instructions - the bowl should not be left on direct sunlight and empty. I thought this was funny...but if the house had burnt down no one would have laughed or covered anything. This is just a cautious note that if you plan to leave this designer bowl under the sun you will have a barbeque :) cheers!
