Product Description

Designed by architect Michael Graves in 1992, this timer is part of a group of products designed in the 80's and 90's by the architect. This was the first group of products by an American designer to be included in the Alessi catalog. It opened the way for the playful design style that subsequently characterized the 90's, and thanks to an inspired mix of post-modern and pop idioms, it has become one of the internationally recognized icons of the 80'es. The item is part of the A di ALESSI collection, the more democratic and whimisical collection.

I wanted a timer that - for environmental reasons - did not use batteries, AND...that was made by a company that has NOT outsourced their manufacturing. I thought when I ordered this Alessi timer that I had found one. I was wrong. Alessi has moved their manufacturing to China.

UPDATE: I returned the Alessi timer and I've ordered and received a Kuchenprofi timer, which IS made in Germany and seems to be a very, very high quality timer.

It doesn't ring when it reaches zero, it ticks obnoxiously loud, and it's made of cheap plastic. Definitely not worth the price. Worthless, in fact.

I am sick of the poor workmanship in timers. I have tried out six of them since the one I had for 20 years broke! Now I am just going to sit and watch the pot boil and time it by the clock because none of the new timers work -- probably because they are made in CHINA!
