It's a breathless race against time in Cold Energy, the new novel from author James M. Corkill. The second novel to feature Alex Cave, Corkill is certainly mastering the art of suspense whilst demonstrating his ability to craft a well-researched and intriguing plotline. Yes, the main event requires the suspension of disbelief, but Corkill cleverly tempers this with fact that creates a genuine sense of authenticity, rapidly building intrigue and tension amongst his characters as they search for the origins of an alien phenomenon that threatens the entire planet. Certainly, a highly engrossing tale that fans of Clive Cussler and the late Tom Clancy will enjoy, but Corkill has his own distinctive style of writing. He definitely doesn't spare the action, but he also likes to dally in the detail which will appeal to readers with an interest in science and he has a genuine knack for creating highly memorable characters. Alex Cave undoubtedly shines throughout, but every hero needs a villain and Corkill serves up a delightfully wretched individual in John Dieter who proves an able catalyst for the jeopardy that abounds. As a sequel Cold Energy works really well and undeniably hints of exciting releases to come from author James M Corkill. It is highly recommended.
About the Author
In 2001 my wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer and wanted to see me published before she passed away. I'll never forget her smile when that first sample paperback arrived, but three months later she was gone. I became deeply depressed after losing my soul mate and stopped writing. Two years later, I retired from the Fire Department.
My depression lasted for eight years and I drank heavily, and then one day a stranger read an old copy of Dead Energy and thought I should start writing again. It was just the encouragement I needed at just the right moment. The next day I quit drinking and began rewriting Dead Energy with a new ending as the start of the Alex Cave Series. I re-published Dead Energy in Nov. 2013, and began writing episode 2, Cold Energy, published in Jan. 2014, and episode 3, Red Energy, published in June 2014.
Now I live in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, with a wonderful view from my writing desk.
