Book Description

Book 1. Dead Energy.
The tanker left Valdez Alaska with a full load of crude oil for what started as a routine trip down to Washington State, until it entered the Puget Sound and the oil mysteriously vanished without a trace. The next day the Alaska pipeline is suddenly empty and oil fields start to go dry. Panic grips the nation when transportation of basic necessities cannot reach the cities, and the only clue is a dollar size crystal found in the empty tanker.
Can Alex Cave, an ex-CIA operative, solve the mystery before it’s too late? Or will our dependency on oil cause us to suffer the consequences of . . . Dead Energy!

Book 2. Cold Energy.
The Polar Ice sheet mysteriously expands by thousands of square miles in a matter of minutes, creating the Polar Vortex and altering weather conditions on a global scale. The viciously destructive power threatens every life on the planet, and if it continues, the world will enter a new ice age.
Can Alex Cave, an ex-CIA operative, find a way to stop the expansions? Or will nature destroy us with . . . Cold Energy!

Without warning Yellowstone National Park begins to rumble. Geysers explode from the ground, raining a deluge of scalding water on innocent bystanders, desperately trying to escape the searing pain, but it is only a prelude to the devastating eruption of this Super Volcano, which will smother the planet in a choking blanket of dust and ash for a thousand years.
Can Alex Cave, an ex-CIA operative, find a way to stop the eruption? Or will all life on the planet be wiped out by . . . Red Energy.

Review

By Diana L (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
There are some books that reel me in fast and in this case, it wasn't one book but a series of three. It was nice having all three books so that my reading continued seamlessly.
The writing flows smoothly and what I liked best was this is not a cookie cutter read. Sometimes when I read a series, I find one of the books is a weaker read and leaves me a bit disappointed but that was not the case with this series. It was a smooth read from start to finish - but I do hope to see books 4, 5 and 6. I was impressed.

About the Author

I'm a retired Federal Firefighter from Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island in Washington State, USA. While I lived on the island, I was fortunate to meet a famous horror writer named Hugh B. Cave, who became my mentor. Sadly, he passed away before I published my first novel, Dead Energy.

In 2001 my wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer and wanted to see me published before she passed away. I'll never forget her smile when that first sample paperback arrived, but three months later she was gone. I became deeply depressed after losing my soul mate and stopped writing. Two years later, I retired from the Fire Department.

My depression lasted for eight years and I drank heavily, and then one day a stranger read an old copy of Dead Energy and thought I should start writing again. It was just the encouragement I needed at just the right moment. The next day I quit drinking and began rewriting Dead Energy with a new ending as the start of the Alex Cave Series. I re-published Dead Energy in Nov. 2013, and began writing episode 2, Cold Energy, published in Jan. 2014, and episode 3, Red Energy, published in June 2014.

Now I live in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, with a wonderful view from my writing desk.

5.0 out of 5 stars gifted author with a knack for telling ultra cool stories December 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are some books that reel me in fast and in this case, it wasn’t one book but a series of three.

I don’t do spoilers but I will clue readers in that book two on the series does have a cliff hanger. It was nice having all three books so that my reading continued seamlessly.

The writing flows smoothly and what I liked best was this is not a cookie cutter read. The author added to the story, changed the story and sometimes took us down a totally different road than the one we expected.

The characters are well developed and there was a consistent attention to detail throughout the series. Sometimes when I read a series, I find one of the books is a weaker read and leaves me a bit disappointed but that was not the case with this series. It was a smooth read from start to finish – but I do hope to see books 4, 5 and 6.

From Alaska to polar vortexes to Yellowstone Park, the author kept me intrigued. It did take discipline not to jump ahead more than a few times as I was eager to find out what would happen next.

If you are looking for a solid read that gives you a good mix of suspense, action and detail overlaid with sci-fi – this is a series that you’ll want to read. You could buy the books one at a time but I think you’ll appreciate being able to continue reading when you reach the end of 1 and 2 versus having to go back and purchase each book one by one.

Corkill is a gifted author with a knack for telling ultra-cool stories- I was impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars An environmental read with a difference. October 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
The Alex Cave Energy Saga box set book 4 by James Corkill is a ripper of an environmentalist trilogy. Each book is a full length saga with the binding thread of Alex Cave who has friends in high places and knows how to look after himself. Corkill also shows a human side of Alex as he struggles with his relations with his father and niece and nephew. There are interesting characters like Wesley, an old timer who knows his mountain and when it is in upheaval. Alex is the geologist they turn to when things start going seriously wrong, He's also good friends with Okana and together they work on defeating the enemy who have found alien devices to clean up the world, amongst other things. Then we are taken to Area 51 and a couple of spaceships turn up. And there's a time traveler. A great read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book 1 *****; Book 2 ***; Book 3 * February 11, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a stand-alone, I would give Book 1 five stars and an enthusiastic review. It seemed like the author, as he produced Books 2 & 3, began to run out of ideas. He probably thought that 4 different endings to the story was very cute. I thought it was just confusing. That is often the problem with stories involving time travel. Oh, we also never found out how the devices caused such destruction in the first 3 endings.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Ideas January 5, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
I received an electronic copy of this book for an honest review. This is a box set of a trilogy (Dead Energy, Cold Energy, Red Energy) with Alex Cave as the central character. I liked Dead Energy (book 1) the best, but I thought there were problems throughout the trilogy that I just could not ignore. This box set is in serious need of some editing, as there were many grammatical and typographical errors. I felt that Red Energy (book 3) suffered from too many ideas and would have been better had the story been streamlined a bit. Overall, the story had good pacing and the characters well defined. A theme of environmental disasters with global implications, as well as an alien component, was a major thread tying all three books together. There was just enough intrigue to keep me reading and just enough science fiction that the story did not get bogged down. If you are not bothered by typographical errors and a lack of final polishing, this story will keep you interested to the end.
