I assembled this trike for my nearly 5 year old daughter (who is motor delayed and only now learning to peddle a bike and steer at the same time). I can't speak to the baby settings, but at the oldest setting, this bike is awesome!
I totally thought that it this trike would be a piece of plastic garbage like so many other things out of China. I couldn't imagine how they could justify the price when Radio Flyer has nice metal construction trikes out there. Well, I'm eating my words. First of all, the bike is pretty sturdy. The wheels are wider than a lot of trikes. I've found that among a sampling of trikes, the Alex is as sturdy as a Fisher Price or Kettler (yes, this seems to run the price gamut)--and far more sturdy than a Radio Flyer. I prefer Alex's upright seating position, however, which resembles the Kettler & Radio Flyer to Fisher-Price's slightly lower and leaned back seating. Since my daughter occasionally bikes in her skirt or dress, I get maybe another inch off the ground to keep the flying mud off. Of course, I'm still constantly tucking the skirt behind her into the seat anyways. I was surprised that my daughter could still fit into the trike. She's by no means a small girl. Throughout her toddler years, she was at the 70-90 percentiles for height and weight. I'd say she's closer to 60-70 percentiles now, but she still can ride this trike. That tells you that it's really a good investment for potentially 5 years or more worth of use --just for one child! The parent steering is really smooth. The mechanism to lengthen or shorten the handle is a little annoying and doesn't look too durable, but so far so good. The assembly really sucked. Seriously. The bucket was horrible to get on and at this point, it's fallen off and we've lost it. The instructions were bad and difficult to understand. When I first assembled, one wheel just didn't seem to stay on and never made the click sound to tell me it stuck on no matter how hard I pushed. But my husband went outside and pounded on it and it finally clicked together. The wheels work fine for us outdoors though. I saw some reviews said that they didn't work well. I live in Baltimore and the sidewalks are like swiss cheese, but DD seems to manage. Now, the best part it turns out about the bike is that b/c of its plastic construction, it doesn't rust in the rain the way the Radio Flyers and Kettlers do. I've held off on writing this review for six months now and the thing has been outside in the blaring down sun, rain, snow, ice, etc. The color has not faded at all, and the trike still pedals like new. For that reason alone, I think it gets 5 stars. If you found this review helpful, please let me know.

This trike is well-designed, sturdy, and user-friendly! Everything is positioned well and you can tell that much thought has gone in to this product. It is made well and has held up very well under regular use by our 1-year old. Our only recommendation would be to put better tires on it. The plastic tires that it comes with are fine for indoor use, but don't work well for outdoor use.

Whoa! This is the Swiss army knife of preschool transportation. I have expected this toy to rock our son to sleep, fill his sippy cup and teach him his colors!
That being said, we found this toy to be a devil to put together, even for my mechanically minded husband. When asked about the educational value of this toy as part of the Amazon review, I wish I could have replied for us as parents...my husband certainly learned a great deal about the fiting together of parts. This is a very durable, high quality set of materials, with an awkward design. Our son seemed to enjoy it well enough, but not so well that I would recommend this to other parents as a solution to eh problem of collecting multiple means of transportation/fun for their child as he/she matures. Good try! Could be better.

from the hard plastic wheels to the flopping-down-in-the-face overhead sun shield to the un-usable front pedals to the rear storage bucket that falls off and finally to the nearly unsteerable adult override this trike was poorly designed with bottom of the line materials. It is colorful though.

I did a lot of research looking for the "perfect" tricycle with a canopy. There is another brand that is much more popular that has some design flaws that are unfavorable. These flaws include tipping over easily and not steering well. This tricycle has NEITHER of these problems. It steers very well and I have not had any issues in which I felt it was going to tip over. It was very easy to put together. My husband put it together in about 30 minutes. Something I love is that the handlebar is completely adjustable. I am tall (5'11") so I love that I can adjust the handle so I do not kick the back of the tricycle. My son is a year old and he loves it. I know he is in there securely with his five point harness. He likes to put his hands on the handlebars and "steer" while I still have all of the control. His feet touch the pedals already (he is tall for his age) but he already realized that it is more comfortable to put them on the resting pegs. I would recommend this tricycle to anyone.

This is the best toy that we've bought so far, and our child is almost a year old. Very durable, easy to steer, high quality, and extremely well engingeered (hubby - a mechanical engineer - agrees). Our baby has used the tricylce since age 8 months. We like it so much that we keep one at the grandparents' home and one at our place. First review I've ever written, but it's been such a great product for our family.

Very well built. We found it was easy to put together, although the instruction sheet is not very clear (small pictures and no text). One issue with the foot rest. You need to make sure to slide the spring (underneath) in order to release the foot rest. For $50, this is an amazing deal (we bought two) and the kids are very happy to ride in them.

Ordered this for my almost 2 year old son. He LOVES the trike. Although he'll be two in two weeks, we're still using it with the Phase I set up since this is his first ever trike. He still fits even with the safety bar installed. He's 26.5 lbs and about 34 inches. He wasn't interested at all in using the footrest so he pedals as we push him along.
I also love this trike. The adjustable height of the steering handle is awesome. I'm only 5' and my husband is 5'11" so it helps that it can be adjusted. The steering took a little practice to keep the trike going straight and turning but overall it's very easy and feels sturdy. The cup holder in the front is great for kids I just wish there was one for the parent as well.

My daughter is 11mo. and she loves this thing. Its pretty easy to put together, but the directions aren't great. It doesn't have the best turning radius either, but its fine for pushing her around the house. Good looking toy, I would buy it again. Oh you have to adjust the pedals for little kids. Its tough to do but just pull back on the gray tab and then down on the pegs.

When I first opened the box, the Ready, Set, Go! Trike looked like it might've been a bad idea. The brightly colored plastic was attractive but didn't look very sturdy. Fortunately, I was wrong. Putting the trike together, I found that the smooth plastic curves hide a well-machined metal frame. With the exception of the slightly peculiar (but easily removed) sunshade, the looks and construction are terrific. It's easy for parents to control and steer; the removable handle is imminently adjustable. There's also a "parking" break on the rear that you can apply rapidly. These features are important in the first two incarnations of the trike; as a stroller for babies 10 months and older then a "baby trike" beginning at 15 months. It even has fold-down footrests for the tiniest ones' feet. There's a seat belt and a removable safety bar and the seat itself is perfectly molded for baby behinds. The pedals and wheels are non-slip (though the wheels look more suited to indoor rides than out.) There's a clutch that you can release when you're ready to let your child try steering the trike himself. The trike's accessorized with a cup holder and rear basket. It's one cute little conveyance. We haven't tried the tricycle yet; in fact, we've barely begun the stroller phase, but I wanted to give a partial review because our grandson already loves it. When he sees the trike, he smiles and makes those cute anticipatory baby noises. Good omens for the future of the trike! EDIT: This trike has proven to be such a hit with our grandson and his parents, that I had to up it to a five star product, all the way across the board. When William reached the one year mark a few months ago, the trike really began getting a work out. He was big enough that his parents felt safe taking him for walks on it instead of in his stroller and, oh boy, did the baby go nuts over it. Though he still can't reach the pedals, William feels in control because the handles he grips turn when his mom or dad turns the stroller handles. Now they take the lightweight trike everywhere except on dirt trails. William never gets bored like he does in his stroller because on the trike, he's holding onto those handlebars and feels like he's in control; like he's doing something instead of passively sitting around being pushed. It's just a joy to watch. Soon, he'll be able to reach the pedals and then. . . his parents are really going to have to hang on! I wouldn't hesitate an instant to give this ten stars, if I could. It's the biggest hit with him, his parents, and his neighborhood. It's causing a lot of trike envy among other new parents. Adding a few photos. |
