5.0 out of 5 stars my child loves it!
I'm surprised at poor reviews for this toy. My 7 year old got it for Christmas and happily churned out stickers all afternoon. My spouse helped him load the sticker film the first time using the instructions that came in the package, so I can't comment on those, but he didn't seem to have any problems. I put a refill in using the instructions from alex toys website and it...

2.0 out of 5 stars OK Toy - Lousy Instructions
Once you get this thing figured out it's not a bad toy, but don't expect your child to be able to figure it out. I'm a grown woman with a graduate degree and it took me five tries to get this right - by that time we'd used up so much of the materials that I'm now trying to find out how to order more and of course they don't give you a clue about that either..... I'm a grown woman with a graduate degree and it took me five tries to get this right - by that time we'd used up so much of the materials that I'm now trying to find out how to order more and of course they don't give you a clue about that either..... IF you buy this toy, I'll clue you in about two things. Make sure the sticky tape is rolling the OPPOSITE direction from they way they tell you to roll it - the way they tell you to do it does NOT work, and also it doesn't work unless you cut a 1/4" border around the outside of the sticker when you're finshed. If you cut right to the edge, there's nothing sticking the picture to the sticky back paper and it all falls apart. Good luck! Make sure to open this toy on a stress-free day... :)

1.0 out of 5 stars EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING TOY!, January 1, 2007

I have never been so frustrated with a toy! The instructions are not only hard to read but wrong! You get better instructions if you go to the Alex toys website, so just throw the instructions away that come with the toy. You waste alot of material with this toy, it seems to be designed that way, so you better purchase extra sticker material when you buy the toy. It jams extremely easily so a child should not play with this awful toy alone.

Wish I could give this a negative. When I did finally get a sticker out, it wouldn't stay stuck to anything for more than five minutes. Ended up sending it back to the wholesaler as unworkable and overpriced.

My spouse helped him load the sticker film the first time using the instructions that came in the package, so I can't comment on those, but he didn't seem to have any problems. I put a refill in using the instructions from alex toys website and it was simple and easy. At first my son did have problems with the machine jamming, until we figured out that the cutting tool has to be pushed all the way over before rolling a sticker out. After that he used it independently for hours with no problems. This toy is quiet, doesn't need batteries, and fosters focused, creative play. Best of all, my son loves it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works better for an older child, September 4, 2009

My 8-year old daughter picked this out to buy with her birthday money. She is very crafty and loves to draw. This gadget basically has a white paper background with a peel-off sticker backing and you are sandwiching your homemade drawing in between that and some clear tape. When you turn the crank it joins the tape on top of the white sticker paper with your drawing in between. I would agree with the other reviewers that the instructions are not great. In step two it said to peel the wrapper from the clear sticker roll and there was no clear wrapper so I wasted some of the tape thinking it was a wrapper. It is very tricky trying to keep the tape from grabbing the white sticker paper before you are ready. It is very important to center it, or it will jam up very easily. Once we got it put together right, she had lots of fun making several stickers, but as others have pointed out the waste factor is huge! Worse than my Brother P-touch label maker (which also drives me crazy with the waste of tape). It came with 10 feet of sticker paper and tape and she got about 22 stickers out of it. She loves that it has a little drawer for the pencils and enjoys making stickers so here I am ordering 2 refill packs for it (because it ran out in a day and a half. If I had known what I know about it now, I would have steered her toward another purchase. But with that said, she is very pleased with it. I would not purchase it for a 5-year old though because it is challenging to turn the crank and it makes the noise like you are putting packaging tape on a box. If I had to keep helping her with it, I would go nuts. Also, make sure not to trim too close around the sticker. Leave a 1/4" of white around it or your creation will fall out!

What would be better than a toy that lets you turn any piece of paper into what every 3 year old LOVES? My 2 year old saw this in some toy magazine sent to us and although she can't read yet, she pointed immediately to it and all she could say for the 4 months leading up to christmas was "Sticker Machine". When I read the reviews here I was a little worried but I got it anyway. It is NOT that hard to set up and get working. It would be tough if the kid is dancing around you asking you to get it working. The idea is the back role is sticker paper, the front roll is clear tap. Any paper you put between them is slapped together to form a sticker on the paper coming out the end, allowing you to cut around it and have a sticker of it. The cutting device is not so hot though, it doesn't cut and creates a jam in the paper feed outlet... Overall it isn't as horrible as people are saying.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Sucker Maker" is what they should call this toy, December 24, 2010

This toys instructions make no sense. in my first attempt to put this thing together, I managed to jam paper in the out-put slot and there is no way to get it out without taking the toy apart. The tape is cheap and rips in the middle (as cheap tape will), and the feeder knob doesn't have enough traction to move the paper though. The only thing this toy has done for us is make a sucker out of me for buying it.

My daughter received this for her sixth birthday. We opened it up for a play date with another six year old. They grew bored as I struggled to put it together, so I set them to picking their first "sticker." They cut out the flimsy and unimaginative pictures. When we made the "stickers" static electricity prevented the image from sliding in properly. It required my help and all my concentration to help roll each sticker out. For each 1/2 - 3/4 inch sticker created, we used about six inches of tape. They quickly grew bored and I was happy to put it away.

This sticker factory is not a very good toy. I got it for Christmas and when I read the instructions I couldn't find out how to put it together. Secondly, The stickers don't even stick they are just like paper. When you try to make the stickers, you have to waste so much paper. I would not recommend this to any people.

It took an adult who is very adept at arts & crafts about a half hour to figure out how to set up this toy. A lot of paper was wasted in the setup process. Then, my 6yo daughter and her 6yo cousin played with this toy and used up all the paper in about half an hour. The stickers did not stick very well. The girls admittedly had a blast for a few minutes, mixed with a lot of frustration and adult assistance. I would NOT recommend this toy to anyone.
