4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect
This is a very nice, sturdy, all wood workbench that is our 3yo grandson enjoys. Because of the solid construction, he'll be able to play with it for years. My only concern is that the "tools" provided (also all wood), aren't actually functional--the little screwdriver blade doesn't quite fit the screwheads, the little wrench doesn't quite fit over the nuts.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, March 14, 2011

My son got this for a Christmas gift as he has always loved tools and workbench type toys. He was excited to get it and played with it a lot for the first few days.

Unfortunately the set is not well made. My first clue came when assembling it and the pre-drilled holes for one of the legs was not spaced right for both screws to go through- I had to re-drill the hole to get it through. Starting within an hour of play, I've constantly needed to re-glue the tools and bolt together- I've done every single bolt and tool handle at least once and lost count on how many times I've fixed the hammer. The second day he had it the vice broke off with a splintered end from him tightening and un-tightening-he's a kid, it not like I was torquing down on it, it shouldn't break that easily.

Workbench tools are fairly basic, and boys love them. However I cannot recommend this one as a good value based on the low quality workmanship and materials.

This was a nice work bench for our daughter who isn't terribly rough and tumble. The tools fit nicely with the bolts and screws and the nails need hammering. It isn't the most sturdy, so if your little person is more physical, he/she might make sawdust out of this workbench.

Great Concept, but give a kid a hammer....
Pros: Working Vise, peg board, hammer & pegs, nuts bolts/screws. Cool. Smooth , no splinters. Son loved it.

Cons: Within 2 days, my son hammered (broke) off a peg off the peg board--choking hazard for smaller children, tore off the working vise, cracked the screwable part.
I should have gone with a durable plastic toolbench standby. Strong plastic is great.

My Work Bench by ALEX is a wonderful toy for any child to foster their imagination. It has several tools for your child to use for building and disassembling the Truck and Robot projects. This toy will keep your little one busy for a long time. Also, it's not just for boys. I've found that my niece enjoys it just as much as my son. It's a toy they play with again and again. It is a very sturdy item.

This was easy to assemble out of the box, and my daughter was eager to begin 'building' some things with it. The pieces included are clearly very rudimentary and simplified for toddlers and young children - actual construction of real-life projects should not be expected. Using the pieces included kids can 'build' things by screwing and unscrewing, tightening and loosening nuts, ect. The pieces are bright and colorful, a good size for toddler fingers and hands.

Overall it seems a little on the flimsy side - I don't see the bench or many of the pieces lasting through more than one toddler, as their play can be a bit rough and abusive. If you're looking for something high-quality that will stand the test of time I would choose a plastic set. This set is cute, and can be fun for younger kids.

As a grandma I really wanted to like this toy work bench, but I can't give it five stars simply because the quality and materials are not sturdy enough to withstand daily hammering and use from toddlers. The work bench I received was damaged upon removing from the box although not unrepairable. The backboard arrived with broken pegs (the ones the tools hang on) but was easily fixed with some wood glue. The shipping box and the box the item was packaged in wasn't damaged so it's a quality control issue the manufacture needs to fix.
As for assembly, it doesn't get any easier than this-It only took about 15 minutes for me to completely assemble from start to finish. It's only held together by a few screws, again not enough, IMO, to withstand the daily use toddlers can dish out to toys.
The workbench itself is painted with vibrant, bright colors that easily catch the eye of toddlers both boys and girls. The "tools" and hardware (wooden pegs and screws) are perfect imitations of real items, only smaller, and work and assemble easily. I also like that all the items are made from wood, no plastic involved.
My grandson doesn't live close by so I only see him a few times a month, if that often. For my needs, a toy room that isn't visited often, I think this toy will hold up and last a few years. If I had a toddler living with me daily, I don't think the work bench would last very long.

This work bench is amazing! It was G'ma and G'pas Christmas gift to our Grandson. It's colorful, built well, and proves to be both educational and fun. Can I say, a few adults were seen playing as well?

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
My 2½ old boy really likes this work bench. He was very excited about receiving it and has played with it a lot. As he was lying in bed tonight, he was still talking about it, saying it was "cool" and describing all the tools that he used--the hammer, screwdriver, and then asking what "that bumpy thing" was (the saw). His older sister enjoys it as well.

At first glance this work bench does not look as impressive as the Step2 work bench that we have. This one is smaller; taller kids will have to bend down. However, the wooden tools are of good quality. The screwdriver really turns screws into holes on the bench. Parents will enjoy the enthusiastic hammering it elicits from young kids. Hey, at least it's a change of pace from the loud, incessant electronic sounds from other toys. The work bench was not too much trouble to put together.

The only problem so far: some of the pegs that the tools hang on are loose and have fallen. They will have to be glued. My kids really enjoy this toy so I recommend it.
