First of all, the craft projects are separately packaged with very clear directions, so it's easy for my 7 year-old daughter to chose which one she wants to do. The materials are colorful and durable. The rounded chest itself is also impressive. It's a keeper. I've purchased several Alex craft products and I recommend them as a company. This product is one of our favorites.

I bought this for my very art and crafty daughter (9) and its pretty neat. Lots of needles though so for sure one has got to be careful - but she likes it a lot

our 10 year old granddaughter loves this product and is carrying it everywhere. It is a well made box, with so many items on the inside that it keeps her fascinated!

My 5 year old has had hours of fun with this and she has done all the projects on her own and hasn't needed supervision. She may not have done each project exactly the way intended but she used her creativity and made lots of creations.

This is a very cool craft kit - lots of materials and projects for hand sewing, embroidering and crochet. My 8-year-old daughter received it for Christmas and she is really enjoying it. The only flaw here is that the directions for some of the projects have steps missing - the coin purse project, for instance, never directs the maker to sew up the sides of the purse, so if you make the purse exactly as specified all your coins are going to fall out! So read directions carefully before you start each project, to make sure they make sense - and modify if needed. Good kit, though.

After visiting my local craft stores, I discovered it is much cheaper to buy all the materials in this box individually than to buy this kit. The materials contained in the kit are also lower quality than you'd find in a craft store, or even in the craft section of Walmart. The box is nicer than anything in it. The bracelets, for example, are made of flimsy felt. The activities are very simple, I would not recommend for older children (9-12 years is probably too old!) unless you are fine with 5-10 minute crafts. While this sounds like a horrible review - it is - my 11 yr old was not entirely displeased. She gave the finished crafts to her younger siblings as gifts.

My 8 yo daughter was thrilled to receive this gift, but it does need a little improving. As other reviewers mentioned, the scissors, thimble and threader need to be better. The threader broke upon first use, and the plastic thimble doesn't stay put. I do not like that the embroidery floss has no way to be stored after you first use it - where are the spools? I would also prefer thread rather than the floss, as it is too think to thread through the needle. I was hoping this would be something my daughter can use unassisted, but it requires a lot of help from me.

I got this for my grand-daughter. This is a great introduction to several basic tasks appropriate for young girls. I'm not sure whether her interest will prevail to when I see her next. My grand-children typically are love what I get them that I think is neat, only to abandon them in a few weeks or less.
