4.0 out of 5 stars My 5-year old loves showing off her artwork!
My daughter received this for Christmas, and could not WAIT to get started decorating it. The kit came with quite a bit of crafting/scrapbooking supplies, so she was able to get started right away. The designs fit into pockets on the inside of the umbrella, and are relatively protected from the weather. She loves making new designs to put in the pockets, and uses...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great craft, not the best umbrella
This was a great craft for my 5 year old daughter. After a year the umbrella has come apart where the spokes meet the plastic ends. The pictures do not stay secure in slots when the umbrella is carried upside down by handle. However somebody more crafty than myself could figure a way to make them stay. We've received many compliments on the umbrella.

My daughter received this for Christmas, and could not WAIT to get started decorating it. The kit came with quite a bit of crafting/scrapbooking supplies, so she was able to get started right away. The designs fit into pockets on the inside of the umbrella, and are relatively protected from the weather. She loves making new designs to put in the pockets, and uses everything from construction paper to feathers to sequins to photos of she and her friends. She even used some of the left over wrapping paper from Christmas for a while!

As for the umbrella construction itself, it is a clear bubble type umbrella like I had when I was a child (why can't you find these for adults?) It seems pretty sturdy, and has held up through very strong winds. The clasp that holds the umbrella open or closed is childproofed, so no chance of pinched fingers. There are pink polka dots and handle, so not quite appropriate for boys. My son would love to have one for himself in boy-colors.

If your daughter is crafty or artsy, this is a great item. I will be getting one to give as a gift.

(PS: tried changing FUN to 4 stars on my daughter's recommendation, but couldn't)

We bought this umbrella for our daughter for Christmas. We loved the creative aspect of it and she had fun filling the slots with photos, drawings, etc... Unfortunately, it broke after ONE use! The sliding opening/closing device slid past where it should and made the umbrella unusable. We thought it was just a clunker so we bought another one and one for our daughter's friend's birthday. Today both girls brought the umbrellas to school and the same thing occurred to BOTH!!! Do not waste your money!!! Very disappointing.

One of my daughters received hers as a gift. We had so much fun together making the little scrapbook pages for it. Then she had even more fun showing it off on a rainy day on her walk to school. We have gotten so many compliments on the umbrella on our daily walk to school. It is the cutest umbrella ever that I went ahead and got one for my other daughter so they could have matching umbrellas personalized with their own scrapbook pages. Also, the umbrella is VERY well made. Your girl will love this umbrella if she is into crafty stuff.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly constructed, comes caked with dust, September 8, 2009

I love the concept of this thing, but it comes caked in a white dust from the vinyl that's nearly impossible to clean out of the nooks and crannies of the inner pockets (don't know how you could see your photos otherwise.)

Also, it's poorly constructed with cheap plastic so I cannot see how it could withstand wear and tear from a child. Fortunately, I'm using it for a display.

But I am disappointed, to be sure. Especially at this price.

great concept but actual umbrella is junk. Defective opening mechanism on umbrella. Defect seems to be on whole batch as we have seen 3 that have the same problem.

The idea is cute-- but there is a big problem. The small pockets have this disgusting powder in them and it's impossible to clean out -- making it impossible to see what you are putting in the pockets. I would not buy this again.

I gave this to a young girl for her 7th birthday and she LOVED it. They don't live nearby but from pictures I saw it looks like this rode in her lap the entire 10+ trip back home. The delivery person left the box on the front step and it got rained on, which soaked into the actual box itself so I had to open it to dry it out (no time to return it) and I think the material looked fun and inviting to a creative kid...I certainly wanted to play with it!
