Alex Yarn Craft Kit in Carry Basket

My daughter was pleased as punch. She got 900 feet (that's a lot for child sized mittens and scarves!) of yarn and a pretty basket to keep the things neat. The needles were just fine. A few other kits at our local shop were going for twice this and didn't have as much yarn and the "baskets" were cheap plastic tubs. If something is damaged I know we usually exchange the item to the store or call the manufacturer and they're more than happy to replace items. Also my daughter is seven years old and just entered 1st grade and she had no problems understanding the instructions with a little help from me.

We got this as an 11th birthday present for one of my daughter's friends. It was the hit of the birthday party -- all the girls went home with new yarn belts, and my daughter, who can already knit a little, asked if she could have one, too. The colors of yarn are bright and the texture is easy to work with. For our purposes, this was a great birthday present.

The basket is pretty, the the wooden needles were damaged, and we had to go to the library for better basic instructions for my daughter to understand.

Well I got this a couple of years ago for Christmas and it was really difficult to knit, so, my neighbor (A grandmother) came over to help and she couldn't get it, but she taught me the other activity in the kit, crocheting! It was a LOT easier, but with the plastic tool and the yarn together, it kept slipping out of thee little hook. After a while, you get the hang of it though, and I could do it with my eyes closed. I would buy it again, but the knitting part I would give a bad rating.

I bought this product a long time ago (I think in fifth grade) at the school book fair. I remember being anxious my mother would be angry at me for buying a knitting kit instead of something academic and so happy when she said it was a good buy. The kit includes an incredible amount of yarn, and the colors were much more vibrant than it appears on my monitor. Mine was the wicker basket version and it lasted until a few months ago, when I gave the kit away with some new yarn. Now mind you this was almost seven years ago so the quality may have changed, but I find that unlikely. I also wasn't too hard on the basket, so your experience might be different if you take it out often or drop it too much.

I remember I couldn't follow the knitting directions so I just learned it from my mother. I probably would have understood it if I gave it a little more time to sink in, but isn't the point of an instruction manual to understand right away? However I did understand the crochet, flower, and pom-pom direction right away, so the book was more useful than not.

The crochet hook was excellent, but the plastic needle was a little rough around the sides and the kitting needles weren't smooth enough. This may be a problem if your stitches are too tight, like mine were.

Overall, I was extremely pleased with this product and enjoyed it for many years. It's a great price for the quality and the enjoyment it gave me.

This was such a great find...I bought it for my granddaughter who is learning how to knit...I teamed this up with another product to give her all the advantages she need to learn how to knit and its such a great basket to carry her project in.

Got this for our 8 yr old daughter because she kept saying she wanted to "knit like mom" :) The yarn color choices are great for kids, bright colors and enough for a project. The needles are a good fit for her hands as well.

The yarn and needles come in a cute basket to keep her knitting together and portable. She learned to "cast on" very quickly and easily and did not have any problems with the yarn wanting to slip off of the needles.

Great product to get kids interested in knitting.

I'm 20 and I decided to start knitting. I was looking for kits that had the best value for the price and this one was it. The other reviews really helped me make my decision. The basket is smaller than I expected, but the item is for kids, so I should have expected that. I'm add more pics above, so any other prospective buyers would like to see a through view of what the items look like. I'm happy with it. It will be a great start for my knitting history.

I bought this for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas based on the reviews it has already received. She has been asking me to teach her how to knit and I thought something like this under the tree would really surprise her. It did. It looks very attractive from the outside but it's what's on the insides that I'm disappointed with.

The wooden knitting needles were very rough and snagged the yarn when attempting to use them. I had to take sandpaper and sand them relatively smooth. The points at first are pencil-point sharp so I had to sand them down a bit too. Just 8 tiny skeins of yarn, a cheap plastic sewing needle, 1 pair of very course wooden knitting needles, and a crochet hook are all you get, including some hard to follow directions. I ended up using other knitting directions instead that were much clearer and easier to understand.

Tomorrow I'm going out and getting her a real pair of short, fat knitting needles and some more yarn. The cardboard box is o.k. to use to carry around the small skeins and small wooden needles, but it won't hold any knitting project bigger than a child's knitted scarf. I'd really rather have my money back to use to buy her real knitting needles and yarn.

I went to a Arts and Crafts store and bought her 2 pairs of fat knitting needles (aluminum), tons of wool yarn and some scissors for 26 dollars. I wish I hadn't bought the Alex Yarn Craft Kit. It could have at least included a pair of scissors to cut the yarn with.

This is an adorable little knitting basket - it is a bit smaller than I had anticipated. The overall package is very appealing. The basket is pretty and seems durable. The yarn colors are rich and bright. It could use a little more yarn though - it didn't seem like much inside. The needles are wooden and hopefully durable enough for a child. It has a nice instruction booklet inside also. Overall it is a good kit for a child - not too heavy, and easy enough to add more yarn to it as it gets used up. Handy for carrying over to grandma's too! Cute!
