Editorial Reviews

Product Description
"I got your letter yesterday, and it is a good thing you are putting onto this job a real high-powered salesman like me, rather than one of your ordinary men. When I explain the situation here, you will see that any ordinary man would have quit cold. But not Alexander Botts. . . ." And so begins "Alexander Botts Rides Again", the stories of this "natural born salesman," who, despite little to no sales experience, lands a job selling Earthworm tractors through sheer gumption.

What follows is mayhem as the tractor salesman extraordinaire tries to explain his way out of many a disastrous situation. Whether you remember reading William Hazlett Upson’s tales or you’re just discovering the antics of his memorable character, the amusing adventures in "Alexander Botts Rides Again" will delight and entertain.

From the Publisher
Author William Hazlett Upson turned his work experience with the Holt Caterpillar Company into a second career in 1927 when "The Saturday Evening Post" published his first story in the saga of tractor salesman extraordinare Alexander Botts. The series was so popular that it led to 112 Botts tales and a movie, "Earthworm Tractors", that starred Joe E. Brown as Botts.

5.0 out of 5 stars The little ant that could, March 28, 2007
Alexander Botts. Gumption? Yes. Arogance? Yes. Fun? Definately! Immortilized by the actor Joe Brown, the character of Alexander Botts has not only stood the test of time - he probably convinced the testers that buying an "Earthworm" tractor would make their lives easier and the testing more efficient!
These short stories center on the adventures and antics of the worlds greatest (self proclaimed) salesman: Alexander Botts. Have a tractor? He'll tell you why you need to upgrade/replace it with an Earthworm model. Don't want a tractor? He'll show you 50 reasons why you really do need one, an Earthworm model of course!
Following Botts as he charges headlong into one disaster after another is like watching a trainwreck in slowmotion. But somehow he always pulls it out in the end.
I discovered Botts in a library's bargain bin over 20 years ago, and I've never passed up an opportunity to re-enter his version of reality.

I cannot reccomend these stories enough, they only give you 5 stars and these stories need at least 6!

4.0 out of 5 stars CAT's moment in history, May 24, 2007
No wonder CAT has their salesmen read this book. It's a funny caracature of what really happens in construction equipment sales.
