Alexander Graham Bell: A Life, December 16, 2005
This review is from: Alexander Graham Bell: A Life (Hardcover)
While this is an interesting work, unfortunately it is also fatally flawed. In 2001 the American Historical Association reported upon a complaint that this work is heavily based upon plagiarism. While the AHA rarely reports upon such complaints, in this case the evidence was so clear that they felt compelled to notify the historical community. According to Robert Bruce, the pulitzer prize winning historian whose book,Bell: Alexander Graham Bell and the Conquest of Solitude (Boston, 1973), was the subject of MacKay's actions, MacKay's American publisher withdrew the book and destroyed all copies in stock. Those books which are still in circulation represent the books sold prior to the problem being brought to the attention of the publishers.
