Outlines of Alexander's life story and military campaigns,
By
This review is from: Alexander the Great (School & Library Binding)
For children with an early interest in ancient Greece, or for boys with a sense of adventure, this book is a great introduction to Alexander the Great. The illustrations depict war and bloodshed, without too much gore (actually, unrealistically small amounts of gore) and show off the increasingly exotic cultures that Alexander encountered.Outstanding map. Your little guy will love how YOUNG Alexander was - 20 when he began, and 32 when he died.

My seven year old daughter has a limited attention span when it comes to reading children's history books. "Alexander the Great" does a great job of getting out all of the essential information about Alexander's life in a format that will appeal to a young child. Demi's style of illustration is heavily influenced by the Sino/Persian miniature tradition of painting. Her images are very detailed and will appeal to both child and parent alike. Highly recommended.

This biography retells the life and history of the times,as well as the religious befiefs. It is extremely well researched, and the art is glorious.

Artistry and History -A great Combo,
This review is from: Alexander the Great (School & Library Binding)
My first exposure to the books by Demi will certainly not be my last. Her artwork compelled me to read the book, at first to my self, and then to my 9-year old son. He could read it himself, but I could see that he enjoyed studying the pictures on each page as I read the story. The colors are rich, with a lot of golden accents that look gilded right onto the page! Each picture floats in a frame. The story begins with Alexander's mother's dream, the night before his birth. His teachers include Aristotle. He became a king at age 20, and proceeded to take over most of the known world. Demi write that "this brought Greek civilization to the Asians, and Asian civilization to the Greeks" . Still, you will read why Alexander wanted his hands to hang outside of his casket when he died, at almost 33 years old. This book has encouraged my fourth-grader to research Alexander the Great, and I think I will too! I know that I will look for more books by her.

Hard to Read,

This review is from: Alexander the Great (Kindle Edition)
This was going to be the first Kindle book for my son but I couldn't read the text. It looks like all pictures with very small text even after making it larger. The art work is also difficult to see because of the black and white font. Is it just me? Am I doing something wrong here?
