Book Description

Life&Times January 24, 2004
Alexander the Great (356-323 BC), King of Macedon, lived a life of mythical proportions. He modeled himself on Achilles and slept with a copy of the Iliad, annotated by Aristotle, his teacher, under his pillow. Unrivalled by any historical military figure, he conquered the Mediterranean, Persia, Afghanistan and northwest India during his brief life. A gifted strategist and self-proclaimed deity, Alexander was impetuous and merciless on the battlefield. He won every battle he fought, exhibited conspicuous personal bravery and, two millennia after his death, is still remembered as the greatest soldier of all time. By the time he died at the age of 33 he had introduced Greek civilization to the world.

This volume also includes narrative captions and historical sidebars provide additional information about the classical world of Alexander the Great. A perfect compliment to the two movies on Alexander the Great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic But Pretty Well Written, October 7, 2005
This review is from: Alexander the Great (Life&Times) (Paperback)
Alexander the Great was probably one of the most famous figures in the post-Greek world. This particlaur book on Alexander is relatively short but is pretty well written. This book isn't written like most other novels, it is written almost like a story or a novel. It is a pretty brief description on Alexander, like most other short books are, but does a good job describing everythhing from Alexander in Persia, to his days in India. The section on India is the most interesting part of the book since that part of Alexander's life is the most vague. Although the book is short it shouldn't be overlooked, it is probably one of the best short books on Alexander the Great.
