4.0 out of 5 stars Slender Introduction to a Fascinating Life, September 23, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Alexandra David-Neel (Paperback)
The author of this slender (200 page) volume is a sculptor & writer who approached the life of this unusual woman through common interests in Buddhism and Asian art. She based her research upon examination of the personal papers of Alexandra David-Neel, discussions with the curator of those papers (Alexandra's secretary during the last decade of her life), and reading many of David-Neel's own books. The resulting work (focusing upon the first 55 years of Alexandra's 100+ years) is both personal and colorful. Neither exhaustive nor definitive, it is an enjoyable introduction to the life and thought of a most interesting person. I would recommend it to anyone interested in women's history, Buddhism, or South & Central Asia.
