This book by Kimberly Williams is an interesting comprehensive synthesis of Alexandria from a maritime perspective. It is the only book that has put Alexandria and the recent underwater discovered in their context.

This is an outstanding book on underwater research discoveries, the Pharos of Alexandria and the Unesco research for a potential World Heritage protection.

Details of the Greek ships, how they were built, the creation of a city, banking, trade, coinage. How the harbor was built. The islands that have sunk over the centuries. The problems that the divers have while doing the research. The discoveries at Abu Quir, the hisotry of the Ptolomies all the way down to the last one Cleopatra.

Potential discoveries, and how to protect the actual ones. It is such a light book to read.

Very very well written.
