Sure, we all know that MobilityWare recently added the most OBNOXIOUSLY INTRUSIVE full-screen video ads in their ever-popular Solitaire app. I'm willing to put up with an ad bar in a free app. But commercials of the Charmin Toilet Paper bears shaking their toilet-paper-ball-ridden rears in my face, when all I wanted to do was play a round of Solitaire? Or a totally inappropriate-for-children movie trailer instantly popping up, taking over the whole screen, and requiring interaction with the screen to get RID of it? If you have children using that app, you should be saying "NO WAY!" If you don't have an unlimited data plan, I'm sure you didn't intend for that app to be racking up the usage of data you so diligently try to save in that disgraceful manner. Hey, I have UNLIMITED data, so that's not a factor.... and I'm STILL annoyed!!!!

But I digress..... The good news is: Along comes 250+ Solitaire Collection!! Yes, it's a FREE app, ad-supported, and requires the following permissions:

* Write to external storage.
* Open network sockets.
* Achieve low-level access to setting the orientation (actually rotation) of the screen.
* PowerManager WakeLocks to keep processor from sleeping or screen from dimming.
* Access information about networks.

Sure, it would be great to get rid of them -- but for a FREE app, this is pretty much not unexpected for something that has an ad bar (and ONLY an ad bar as of this writing) as a way for people to "pay" for an app they got for free. It includes AdMob, and that's it... one the most popular advertising ad-ons used in a free app (and ridiculously in some paid apps as well). I can LIVE with AdMob.

I really like this set of games. It will let me play in portrait mode on the Fire when most won't. And I love the card sound.

2.0 out of 5 stars Was better before upgrade April 6, 2013

I really enjoyed this app - there are tons of games, lots of variety. I play card games frequently and this app was great. Then it was "upgraded." I would open the app and it would open in the middle of a game. I never leave a game unfinished. I have been late to work before because I do not leave a game unfinished. It has also replayed the same game twice in a row. Not much challenge in that...

Then my Kindle battery started dying. It was completely dead by noon, when it had been fully charged and I had only played a couple of games and read a chapter in a book. Imagine my surprise when I opened a game and discovered the timer said that I had been playing that particular game for 3 hours and 49 minutes. The app no longer shuts down when I back out of it - not even when my Kindle is asleep. The app just keeps running and running in the background and completely draining my battery. In order to shut the game down, I have to do a force stop.

I used to really enjoy this app, but I'll be uninstalling this and finding a new solitaire app.

Not even worth the price at free.

This app has alot of good card games and works well with the kindle fire. My main complaint is an ad bar that takes up 20% of your screen.

1.0 out of 5 stars Want a version without ads December 2, 2013

Can't find a way to get a version without the ads. An iPad version allowed you to get rid of them.
