5.0 out of 5 stars Long Overdue--So glad this gem is available, April 29, 2007
Absolutely one of the best Korner albums. Granted, some of the songs are not the bluesy repetoire usually associated with him, but this album is as shockingly brilliant today as it was when it was released. Songs can be sparse (Wild Ox Moan), overdone (You can make it what you want it to be), or just downright brilliant (That's All). The added bonus features are really a bonus, and if you already own it, you can retire the vinyl and your digitalized copy of the vinyl: no surface noise takes away from the sheer brilliance of Korner's performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars The unique Korner, June 15, 2007
These reissues of Alexis Korners albums are marvellous. This eponomous 1971 album originally had eleven tracks, the reissue has twenty two. Alexis Korner was one of the pioneers of the Blues boom in the early sixties in the U.K.

The original tracks feature Larry Power on electric guitar, Chris McGregor electric Piano and Piano, Colin Hodgkinson bass and backing vocals, Jack Brooks drums and Joe Walsh backing vocals. Of these 11 tracks the haunting opening solo vocal track 'Black Woman (The Wild Ox Moan)', 'Clay House Inn' and 'Am I my brother's keeper' are perhaps my favourites.

Of the extra tracks 'Loisiana Blues', 'Doggone my good luck soul' and Alexis' Boogie were my favourites initially. The reason for this was that they were obviously blues.

What might surprise quite a few people about this album is that of the original eleven tracks only one two are really blues tracks. Of course that voice has the blues in it through and through. But you do need to be aware of this, as if you want a more blues purist album there are probably better ones than this to get. Having said that this is little gem of album that grows on you with repeated listens.
