I added this to my D-Link 626 g/b router. The router is in the basement of our wood framed home with wide duct work which interferes with transmission to computers on the first and second floors above. A maximum straight line distance of about 20 feet. The signal strength, measured by my computer on the second floor, improved from about 50% to about 75%. The strength improved to 100% when I changed from a PCI cardbus wifi adapter in the computer to a USB connected adapter with a cable that allowed me to move the adapter around to get the best reception. In summary, performance of the antenna is not 5 star, but it was well worth the $14 I paid with shipping.

I have a d-link router and was getting 1 to 2 bars and thought that with this antenna I was going to get at least 3 bars, but everything stayed the same, even when i changed the wireless card on my laptop from G to N then went down to 1 for some inexplicable reason that I assume has nothing to do with the antenna, gonna try a newer router for this one is about 3 years old or more. if anybody has a router that would like to suggest, I'm all ears, Router distance from laptop is about 100 Feet roughly.

LOL... It seems the "OLD HAM RADIO OPERATOR" liked to talk more on CB rather than study radio wave lengths. 2.4Ghz. (WI-FI) is a smaller wave length and has a harder time going though buildings and walls. This is my forth Alfa product and they are by fare the best Wi-Fi product at the wright price I've found. Exceeding past what is needed for the average Wi-Fi user. As for the other person complaining about the size.... If you want better you need bigger. This antenna is good for some one that shares an Access Point or taps in to one however it all depends on what is running the antenna. (5 STARES ALFA #1)

This product was a replacement for a broken antenna on my router. Once received it fit right into the back of the router with no problem. The wifi reception is better when I go to other rooms with my laptop now than with the antenna that was provided originally. The antenna is long but I have my router on top of my desk and just hang it down and it still works great.

This antenna has worked well for us, picking up a signal from up to a mile away, which is perfect for liveaboard sailors who want to get internet on their boats.

Atenna came quickly and went right on no problems. It is omni directional, so most improve will be noticed if you postion router and antenna for optimal range. By that I mean that having the atenna on router with antenna between a back wall and the front of the router you will not get the max benefit.

You want the antenna with some space around it. Ideally, though most of us like our routers in a back room witht he computer, you would centrally locate your router in your home.

With that said, mine is in the back room with my router sideways ontop of a computer desk and the antenna definitely improved signal strength in the rest of the house.

Tried this antenna (15 inch long) right next to the router and at a distance of 30ft away in the next room against the original antenna from the router (3 inches long) and another antenna (5 inch long). I used an internet speed and bandwith test (download/upload tests) three times for each antenna and averaged the scores. There was NO noticeable difference (fractions) between the three antennas. If I where to rank them on actual download speeds the Alfa antenna (9dbi) came in 2nd, ahead of the original, but behind a 5dbi gain antenna for some reason.

I purchased this for use with our Verizon Fios router (which is known for having very poor wireless coverage) after unsuccessfully trying various repeaters. Various forums are reporting that repeaters are not compatible with the Verizon Fios router so this was my only choice. I do notice a difference. In the one area of the house where I had one bar of signal strength on my iPhone 4S I now have 2 bars. I'm happy.

We were getting no wireless signal in our back bedroom and this item totally took care of the problem. It was as easy to install as unscrewing the existing antenna and screwing this one on in the same place. It took mere seconds for the computers and printers in the back room to pick up the signal. It has increased the integrity significantly. I highly recommend it as an inexpensive way to deal with weak signals.

Got 2 of these for a couple of computers in a home office that for various reasons can't be connected permanently via Cat5. Speed tests online show very little difference between wired and wireless performance, even when using both computers simultaneously. Even passes VoIP tests with flying colors.

Only drawback so far is that, due to the size and weight of the things, they can't really be positioned freely. Need to lean them against the case or the wall, otherwise they'll fall over and point downward (and thus not work as well). Other than that, they're a great upgrade.
