Panel antennas work great, I have the 2000mW Alfa adapter and get approx.

These antennas brought the signal up to 3 bars, and no dropped signal.

hooked it up to my alfa adapter today and easily doubled the strength i was getting from the stock antenna. is an easy install, but would have been nice if they marked one side of the panel with "this side towards target" or some such so as to know better how to aim it (the side without writing towards target). I have played with tin cans, pringles cans, windsurfers, and more. some are better than this but for how easy it works and how small it packs this is a keeper. but still would recommended a yagi or a dish if you need maximum distance and portability is not an issue (I use this setup with a netbook).

Bought 2 of these to see if they would improve the performance of a church campus WiFi network. The system is made up of a central access point (Proxim 4000, an oldie but a goodie) and 5 Encore router/repeaters spread around the campus. Each repeater has 2 antennas, so only 2 areas of the campus are (so far!) served by units with these antennas.

While there has not yet been time to conduct extensive measurements using inSSIDer, I am surprised and glad to report significant increases in transfer rate, as measured by Speakeasy's online test, in one of the areas served by a repeater with these antennas. The repeater and Acer netbook used in this test connected over 802.11g. The church's internet connection is a T1 line, with maximum throughput measured in the server closet on a hardwired connection of about 1.5 Mbps down and 1.35 Mbps up (results varied from test to test, but these numbers represent typical results).

Throughput before the panel antennas were installed:

Down: 0.28 Mbps
Up: 0.16 Mbps

Throughput after the panel antennas were installed:

Down: 1.26 Mbps
Up: 1.01 Mbps

We observed some variance in transfer rates over several tests, both for the better and for the worse; these results are typical.

Will conduct further testing and supply before and after signal strength numbers, measured using inSSIDer, as soon as possible. But the throughput results were so striking, and so unexpected, that I wanted to post this review now.

It's important to remember that your results may be very different. This installation is in a semi-rural location, with (presumably) very low radio interference. If your location sees heavy traffic in the 2.

I have a 2000mw Alfa Adapter(the white one). My wifi network is roughly 250' away from my shop, where I have this set up. With a plain omnidirectional antenna on my router, and an omnidirectional on my adapter, I get about 70% signal strength and ~45% link quality.

With the panel antenna on my adapter and an omni on my access point, I get about 85% signal strength and link quality. I've ordered more so that I can place one on my router as well. Im expecting signal strength/quality to be in the 90% range.

I own 2 Alfa AWUS036H 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g USB Wireless WiFi Adapter With Original Alfa Screw-On Swivel 9dBi Rubber Antenna and Suction cup Window Mount dock. Of the 3 antennas that I own, this directional 7dBi antenna clearly performs the best. If I were to purchase another Alfa Adapter, I would buy the model that comes with this and skip the other antennas and suction cup.

The standard 5dBi antenna works well enough for most areas. The 9dBi performed very poor - getting 1-2 bars less than the 5dBi antenna. My tech friend said that it is likely that the 9dBi antenna is pulling in too much interference from other frequencies. The 7dBi antenna constantly gets a 1-2 bar improvement over the 5dBi antenna.

I've used my Alfa Antennas to successfully connect to wi-fi over 1 mile away (with direct line of sight). I get 0-1 bar with the 9dBi, 2-3 bars with the 5dBi (depending on humidity and wind), 4 bars with the 7dBi. They work amazing!

I recommend getting a AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to A-Female Extension Cable (9.8 Feet/3.0 Meters) so that you can put the antenna in the best location for reception.

I knew getting this that it would help alittle but not a huge improvement which is what I got. Before getting it my dBi was 13-16 on average but when I hooked this up to my clear hub express and it now goes up to 19-22 dBi but and the signal speed has increased from 2 GB to 3-4 GB on average. Not bad for a little item the size of a apple lol. So far it has worked for my expectation

I've tried SEVERAL high gain antennas for the AWUS. I've tried the 9dbi omni antenna from Alfa. I've tried a really high gain yagi antennae. I've even tried a MASSIVE outdoor 12 dbi high gain omnidirectional antenna that was over $60 including the RP-SMA cable. The 9dbi omnidirectional antenna from Alfa worked the best out of all of the antennas mentioned above, but still, it wasn't that great. So, I was a bit hesitant on getting this antenna.

I just got it, and let me tell you folks, this thing is AMAZING. The first antenna I have tried that really boosts signal strength and link quality. It's also directional, so you can try aiming it to find the best signal. It also sees a lot more AP's than with the standard 5 dbi omni directional antenna. It is kinda weird since I expected less. But, it seems that the panel converges RF energy forward at a large enough angle to pick up more AP's down range.

Finally, I have noticed that buildings and materials can obstruct and interfere with RF signals. So, make sure you have this positioned close to a window. RF seems to go through glass ok. It doesn't like metal. So, make sure you have a long enough USB cable to plug this bad boy near a window pane to minimize interference in your home/etc...
