A must have for fans of Depeche Mode and industrial music, June 4, 2009
This review is from: Alfa Matrix Re:Covered - A Tribute to Depeche Mode (Audio CD)
As a fan of Alfa Matrix record label and Depeche Mode, I knew I had to own Alfa Matrix's tribute album to Depeche Mode RE:COVERED - A TRIBUTE TO DEPECHE MODE. RE:COVERED is a two cd set of Depeche Mode songs covered by an array of artists signed to Alfa Matrix. The month and a half wait for the album proved to be well worth the time and money. The artists on the album do a terrific job at reinterpreting Depeche Mode's classics. Artists/bands like Ayria, Diffuzion, i:scintilla, and Komor Kommando each inject their own sound into the songs that I have come to know and love from Depeche Mode. Both discs are very good so I can't say one was better than the other. One of my personal favorite songs on the entire album is Komor Kommando's "Personal Jesus". The song was a stripped down acoustic/rock song which was quite a contrast to the other songs on the album. As a huge Ayria fan, I absolutely adored her cover of "In Your Room". The song had that familiar electroclash/perky industrial sound that Ayria is well known for. My most personal favorite track on the album has to be Regenerator's version of "Precious". That is the one song I find myself hitting the repeat button on my stereo and ipod. I love both the original as well as Regenerator's version. I kinda wished that Erica Dunham (Unter Null/Stray) had contributed to the album but otherwise I loved all of the artists' interpretations of Depeche Mode's music.
