This review is from: Alfi Avanti 44-Ounce Carafe, Cobalt Blue and Silver (Kitchen)
I make a full pot of coffee (12 cups) in the morning and use it over two days by keeping it in the Alfi Avanti Carafe. The Avanti holds 10 cups and does a good job keeping the contents warm. I usually heat my poured cup of coffee in the microwave because no thermos keeps it as hot as I like it. The screw-on lid is a little difficult to use, but there is a convenient trigger on it for pouring, so you only have to fight with the screw cap when filling or emptying the carafe. The Danish design looks great. I prefer the colbalt blue because it does not show coffee stains like the lighter colors do. It's best to use a bottle brush with some baking soda and dish detergent and let it soak overnight. You cannot put it in the dishwasher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, February 28, 2008

This review is from: Alfi Avanti 44-Ounce Carafe, Cobalt Blue and Silver (Kitchen)
A neighbor loaned me her $200.00 fancy, silver Alfi carafe while I was recuperating from surgery and needed to keep ice water on a third floor to avoid the stairs. I had no idea it cost so much until I tried to find one. You can get it from Sonoma if you are so motivated.

HOWEVER, for under $30.00 you can get this amazing carafe that works just as well. This model keeps water cold for days---I swear. The ice was still floating around in the bottom of the carafe, keeping the ice chilled after three days!!! I presume that it does the same excellent job for hot beverages. How have I lived without this? I have hot flashes and an ICE COLD swig of water in the middle of the night or in the early morning is mighty fine. :)

It is perfect for keeping beverages hot or cold in your office or anyplace you want something just as you like it when you want it and don't want to keep refilling.

Alfi are made in Germany. The craftsmanship is top-notch and it works like a dream.

The top is a bit fussy, but as the person said you twist it on once and it's over. Once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. Plus, it could be days before you have to do it again, if you're doing a cold, stable beverage like water or ice tea. I hadn't even figured out the one-handed trigger until I read one of the reviews, and I still loved it. Once it's filled you can use one hand to pour your favorite hot or cold beverage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but much smaller than described, August 25, 2008

This is a nice carafe that functions and looks well. It does NOT, however, have an 80 oz. capacity as listed. I double-checked the part numbers and my box has the same # as listed on Amazon. It is a 1.3 liter carafe, which works out to around 44 oz.

This means it's just more than half of the described size. The box says, "1.3l for 10 hot cups" but I guess a "cup" in Europe is about half a cup here in the U.S.

The unit it what it is. It looks much like the picture, though my white and ice blue is a bit more translucent and less colored. I don't blame the company. I do wish that Amazon would have a more accurate title and description since we're not talking about a minor error. I will keep it because I like it but wish it were a bit bigger.
