4.0 out of 5 stars A very good thermos
I have 2 of these. I can make my tea at 7 a.m. and at 7 p.m. it is still hot enough to require caution in drinking. I did discover a flaw with the screw down cap. If your boiling water is poured in to the top and you quickly screw on the cap it is possible to cross thread it, making it difficult from that time forth to open and close. If after waiting several minutes...

2.0 out of 5 stars The Alfi Is Iffy
It's a beautiful design and color but that's as far as it goes in the world of coffee carafes. The handle on top is very thin and requires some strength in turning the top (I've had to go so far as to utilizing a screwdriver or knife as a lever!). It keeps the coffee moderately warm but not hot, but that may be a by-product of my fear of really screwing the top on too...

If your boiling water is poured in to the top and you quickly screw on the cap it is possible to cross thread it, making it difficult from that time forth to open and close. If after waiting several minutes before screwing on the cap this can be avoided. I'm very pleased with the unit and have ordered more for Christmas gifts.

It keeps the coffee moderately warm but not hot, but that may be a by-product of my fear of really screwing the top on too tightly. If looks are what you are after, this is the one for you. If you require your coffee to be kept with some modicum of heat retention, look elsewhere!

3.0 out of 5 stars A looker, that works OK, January 5, 2008

I only need a carafe to keep a pot of coffee warm over the course of the morning, and this item does the trick. The lid does seal tightly, but I've not have any problems with opening it. However, by afternoon, the coffee is cool -- my all-metal thermos works better at keeping hot liquids warm longer. Nevertheless, coffee doesn't keep well in a carafe more than two or three hours, anyway, so this shortcoming is immaterial to me. What I really like about the Alfi Modern Classic is its looks. I have the cobalt colored one and it is gorgeous.

If you want to make coffee directly into the carafe (which is best for maximum heat retention), you'll need a drip filter with a special narrow bottom. Alfi makes one, but charges a ridiculous $[...] for it. [...]

Six months later: This carafe is now leaking from the bottom because the inner container has come detached from the plastic exterior case. I'd downgrade this product to two stars for flimsiness. It's fine if you just want to break it out for the occasional brunch, but not sturdy enough or daily use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful product; a tad impractical, January 16, 2007

This is a great product for setting coffee on the table when you have guests over. It's attractive and retains heat well. However, you can't put it in the dishwasher, which makes it impractical for every day use in our house. Other than that, it's a good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE my (many) Alfi Carafes, April 9, 2011
I have never had a problem with my Alfi, but then again, screwing in a lightbulb hasn't been a problem either. My first one is over 5 years old and I've bought one for every house or office I spend time in (four so far). Am a tea drinker, and one bag makes 3-4 cups, and I like my tea strong and use a lot of milk, so the Alfi's ability to keep it warm for hours is fantastic. I bought them for everyone in the family last christmas because they are beautiful, functional (love the Modern Classic easy open/seal shut lid mechanism) and practical. None of mine have every leaked, but then I haven't dropped any of them, nor did it occur to me to put them in a dishwasher. Once, when I forgot to rinse it out post use, the evaporated tea left a brown haze on the interior, but some denture cleaner got it sparkling inside again. I no longer use a teapot--the alfi is the best.

I bought several Alfi Lovegrove and Brown carafes years ago at Sam's Club for gifts. They keep coffee hot for many hours longer than other canisters, and they are lovely to look at.

I have always wanted another since Bart, my 16 lb. Kitty, decided to push it off a shelf and caused an unslightly nick in its cap (still worked however!). The other day I decided to reserach these on line and was so happy to find them!

I received two new kobalt Blue carafes Alfi Modern Classic No. 1 32-Ounce Shiny Carafe, Azure Bluewithin ten days of the order. I was impressed.

I am thinking about ordering more for Christmas gifts this year! Start early!

This review is from: Alfi Modern Classic No. 1 32-Ounce Shiny Carafe, Ice Blue (Kitchen)
This keeps tea or coffee hot while looking stylish on the table. It holds about 3 or 4 cups of tea.
I like the design and semi transparent color, and will enjoy making a pot of tea instead of one cup at a time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Plastic screw cap breaks, October 22, 2009
By

I have owned this carafe for less than a year. The screw cap is assembled from two pieces held together by two thin plastic projections. Both broke off and I had to unscrew the cap using a wrench. I am throwing this out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me!, February 18, 2009

It does keep liquids hot -- I left a cup of coffee in it one morning and it was still drinkably warm the next morning! (about the same temperature as the last sips of a cup I'd poured hot and had been drinking while I worked.) The real thing looks just like the picture; perhaps a bit shinier, especially in well-lit rooms, but it's a "dark shine" -- the color is the rich blue that's shown.

Like all shiny objects, it does attract smudges, but it doesn't have the "every fingerprint glares at you" problem, probably because the blue is so dark; the outside does have to be throughly towel-dried after you rinse it to get that lovely shine back, not just a quick wipe (takes an extra five seconds to get the full shine). It dribbles a bit if I pour slowly, but so do other pitchers; that might just be me. You do have to screw the top completely closed each time to keep your beverage warm, a quick half-twist won't do it. The handles feel a bit delicate, which I like; but if you're rough on your stuff they might break. The entire carafe is much more lightweight than other carafes I've used, but that's a good thing -- efficient design, not flimsiness. It sits solidly on surfaces and doesn't tip over easily, despite the round design.

I'd definitely buy it again, and would highly recommend it to friends who aren't rough on their stuff.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks 10 Functionality 2, December 17, 2008
I love the way this looks but after owning it for three years with just occasional use it has warped so badly that I can't screw the top on AT ALL. I'm disappointed and wouldn't recommend buying this.
