Book Description

May 1, 2007 Alfred Kropp Adventures
Thousands of years ago, King Solomon used a powerful ring, known as the Great Seal, to imprison the fallen angels of heaven in a sacred vessel. Now both the ring and the vessel have been stolen from OIPEP by a double-crossing Mike Arnold. Should Mike choose to wield the demons' power, all hell could break lose . . . literally. Led by the mysterious Op-Nine, OIPEP has a plan to retrieve the artifacts, and their success depends on the least likely candidate, none other than the last descendent of Lancelot, Alfred Kropp. In this thrilling new adventure, author Rick Yancey proves once again that Alfred Kropp's unlikely role as a world-saving hero is definitely no accident.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Starred Review. Grade 8–10—The Seal of Solomon has been stolen from the Office of Interdimensional Paradoxes and Extraordinary Phenomenon (OIPEP) by one of its own operatives, so once again the services of Alfred Kropp are needed. Alfred is an ordinary 15-year-old boy, slightly overweight, tall, with a big head, who gets bullied in the halls of his local high school. Of course, this same Alfred has blood that can heal, is the last son of Sir Lancelot, and is the sole heir to the Samson fortune. His is a name known by all and his mistakes are the kind that can end the world as we know it. As the Outcasts of heaven are released, readers follow Alfred through many fast-paced adventures, starting when he is kidnapped from his foster home in Tennessee and taken to many parts of the world. The teen hero parachutes out of airplanes, faces demons, and has a plan to save the world, if he can live long enough to carry it through. A great book for boys, as well as reluctant readers, The Seal of Solomon tells a rip-roaring story that teens will love and won't be able to put down.—June H. Keuhn, Corning East High School, NY

From Booklist

Alfred Kropp, the hero of The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp (2005), returns as the unlikely rescuer who can save the world from certain destruction. At the story's beginning, Alfred is a bullied high-school sophomore, living with indifferent foster parents. Then demons, imprisoned 3,000 years earlier in a vessel by King Solomon, escape and start to spread destruction around the globe. The mysterious organization established to prevent this sort of catastrophe proves ineffective in battling the supernatural foes. Clumsy, awkward Alfred turns out to be a descendant of Sir Lancelot, and he is called upon to battle the forces of darkness in a series of wild, often violent, and surreal confrontations. Readers won't have to have read the first title to enjoy this over-the-top adventure fantasy. Yancey manages a balancing act, blending action-packed scenes with tongue-in-cheek humor and occasional heart-on-sleeve sincerity. Morning, Todd

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast paced and exciting!, June 16, 2008

I haven't been able to get my hands on the first Alfred Kropp book yet but after having read this book, I definitely will. This book has all the ingredients that makes a book exciting - adventure, danger and even some softer moments like when Alfred thinks of his dead mum or is compassionate towards his treatment of Kenny, the other foster child living at the Tuttles. A good book which I didn't want to put down!

3.0 out of 5 stars My son and I disagree, February 22, 2010

This review is from: The Alfred Kropp: The Seal of Solomon: Alfred Kropp 2 (Alfred Kropp Adventures) (Hardcover)
My son loves Alfred Kropp. He's 11. I do not love Alfred Kropp. I'm 36. I think the dialogue is inane, the story eye roll-worthy, while my son loves everything about this book.
I read it aloud to him and my other two boys. They usually fell asleep after the first few paragraphs.
This story centers on Alfred and how he gets swept up in a plot to take over the world. The secret organization OIPEP calls him in to help them find Mike who has stolen the Greater and Lesser Seals of Solomon. Alfred is there to help and yet no one will tell him why they need him or how he can help. He pretty much bumbles his way through the story, coming in to his own only at the very end.

I asked my son why he liked this book so much. He couldn't tell me, except to say, "I don't know, Mom. It's funny."
