Excellent biography of an extraordinary person. His development of oil and explosives made him one of the most influential persons of modern time.

I liked the historical aspect and the description of his many difficulties. I had the feeling that it was truly the unvarnished truth about Alfred Nobel's life. I gained an entirely new perspective about the man. It was informative and factual so I liked it very much.

Readers wishing to understand the essence of this man will get a lot of information about his science and business life. It is spiced up by the descriptions of his mistress who lived at a distance, and who became pregnant by someone else, hurting him.

It seems he made his choices to live for his business, which included close family ties, as relatives also had related businesses, leading to an empire of sorts for them.

The accidental publishing of his obituary prematurely is offered as related to the real reason behind his choice to create the NOBEL PRIZE in his will. Some people criticized him, characterizing him as the "merchant of death".. In fact, there were numerous mishaps, explosions that did sometimes kill. Of course, he was developing a dangerous substance. But it also was picked up for use in wartime. Inspiring is the choice to dedicate part of his fortune to support people who deserved reward for furthering the cause of Peace.
