Editorial Reviews

“This is required reading for serious scholars of photography and Stieglitz, but the language is not overly academic, so the casual reader can easily become engrossed.” —Library Journal

Format: Hardcover
This book presents Alfred Stieglitz's work, mainly from 1915 until his death in 1946. It also contains some previously unpublished letters between him and Georgia O'Keeffe.
It is a big, heavy coffee table book divided into sections with an introduction, the early years- 1864-1914, 1915-1919, the 20's, 30's, 40's and an epilogue. There is actually more text than pictures and many of them are not full page. There are photos that also illustrate his life in great detail including his acquaintances and of course O'Keeffe. They are identified with the year and what they show.

One problem that some might have in looking at this book... many of the photos are not in chronological order, which can be not only confusing, but does not aid in showing how his work progressed and changed. Other than that it is an interesting book for those who admire Stieglitz's work and photography in general.
