5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guitar Method!
Over 3 million copies sold for a reason --- it's the best. The previous reviewer is obviously confused. She loves the method and didn't understand the star system. She meant to give it 5 stars. I give it 5 stars because I know the authors and this book is gorgeous. Beautifully engraved pages with clear and easy to use layout. The Book & DVD version lets you download...

My daughter is a music teacher and finds Alfred's to be the best books to teach the basics, either to oneself or to a student.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alfred's Basic Guitar Method - Book 2, July 25, 2010

Very good. It provides the excellent instruction of the other Alfred's series of guitar books. It picks up
where book 1 left off.

I give it 5 stars because I know the authors and this book is gorgeous. Beautifully engraved pages with clear and easy to use layout. The Book & DVD version lets you download the lessons to your iPod or mp3 player. This book has 20% more instruction than other methods. And the Book & CD version is excellent as well. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Challenging experience, December 29, 2008
I bought this book recommendation of my daughter's guitar teacher. She is starting her fourth year of private guitar lessons (she's 11) and has gone through the three youth manuals that were available. We got this one just before she left for summer vacation so she'd have something new to work on before she came back to lessons in the fall. Working through it on her own was definitely a challenge for her (she had difficulties playing with the CD, mainly because she couldn't keep up and she was confused since some tracks have multiple parts being played and she didn't realize she was only supposed to be playing one of them - she did not have a chance to see her teacher for any instruction after the book arrived) but she made great progress with it on her own during the summer. Upon her return, her teacher explained to her how to use the book along with the CD and she's made great progress. It has helped her work on all facets of her playing - chords, rhythm, scales, melody, etc.
