5.0 out of 5 stars Great - especially when used with the videos - same as CHALKDUST, January 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We homeschool and have heard great things about ChalkDust math. The only negative I found was the price - several hundred dollars for the book and videos. Then I found on the well-trained mind board that the same company made videos for the textbook companies, and you can get them for a fraction of the price.

This book is the old version of what ChalkDust used for Algebra II. I was concerned because it says "intermediate" algebra, but found that is because it is a college text. As a college text it doesn't have as many flashy pictures and sidebar examples as a high school text, but honestly I just want my kids to know how to do the work.

There are plenty of problems - too many actually to do all of the problems but enough that if you need the extra practice you can get it. Each section has word problems, and each unit has both a chapter review and a summary to date so earlier topics are revisited.

I think the book in itself has a lot of explanations and one could probably work through the book without the videos. Dana Mosely does a wonderful job explaining things though, and it's easier watching and listening to him so you truly understand it, and you can go back to the book explanations if you need refreshing. I think I paid around $20 for the videos and less than that for the book and the solution manual (which only has solutions for ODD problems - no even), so the whole set cost me less than $50. Quite a difference compared to the Chalk Dust program, and it is exactly the same thing . . . even says "Chalk Dust" at the end of each video.
