A Masterpiece!,

This review is from: Alhambra (Hardcover)
This magnificently photographed volume offers the reader a wonderful insight into one of the most beautiful edifices in the world. This oversized book stunningly recreates the splendor of Grenada. A treasure for any who have visited the Alhambra.

Very thorough book on the most famous palace of the Alhambra with loads of gorgeous photos. I was looking for a book on the gardens, which it does not cover, nor does it convey what a huge site the Alhambra is with a great deal of land cultivated as gardens and several other palaces to see. A complete visit in person requires six hours and is an amazing delight for history and art lovers.

As a teacher of Spanish that has traveled to Spain and seen the beauty and wonder of the Alhambra, I was skeptical that this book would be able to capture the beauty I had seen. I was pleasantly surprised when the book came and the photos were large, colorful, and true-to-life. I am happy to share this book with my students when discussing architecture and Spanish history and see the wonder in their eyes as they see the intricate designs of the stonework... La Alhambra was a magical place, and the book captures that magic as well as one can in large, glossy pages.

Excellent, except no architectural line drawings are in this book,

This magnificent book has a wealth of detail on all areas of the Alhambra. The photos are truly breathtaking and the text provides an excellent commentary. The only significant fault with this book is that there is not a single architectural line drawing of any portion of the complex. The closest one comes is the painted birds-eye view at the end of the book, but this is of very limited use to serious scholars. I would hope that the authors would add plans, sections, and elevations to any future editions of this fine volume.
